LV vs LN for First Sub?

Hello!
After Years and I mean more than a decade of wait, I am finally on an ADs list!
This will be my first Rolex, I have always wanted a Submariner. I am a big swimmer and I love the ocean. I also love the history of the Submariner and while I think the Batman looks cool AF I just have to have a Submariner.

Currently I have the LV listed as my 1st preference, I love the green and the original Kermit with its slim case and Maxi Dial. I am concerned that it will not be as versatile as the LN.

In one hand I want something different and slightly more special so those in the know, know I am an enthusiast but on the other than the LN is the GOAT and true to the classic as well as being the most versatile.

So what is a guy to get for his first (likely only) Submariner?

Black. I'd only get the LV if I was collecting Submariners.

Get the LV. Basic black is classic but quite boring and all too common.

I’d go with black. It’s classic and always will be.

I went black first. However, I’d recommend the LV. Classic enough, and green keeps it interesting.

Black if you don't have a collection, LV if you have a collection especially if you have black bezel and dial watches. The LV is unique and I have one but not an everyday watch in my opinion.

LV for me. The LN is just so common in the wild and the LV is a bit more unique. Unlike the original Hulk which is very green, the 126 LV has just a splash of green.

The LV has a green bezel.

Do you want a watch with a green bezel?

The black one is a true classic. The LV only fits on certain occasions. It is great as fourth or fifth watch in the collection.

I had and wore an LN date for my first sub, then as I realized I’d like to have maybe a 3-4 watch collection I got the LV. Now it’s really just that and my new Pelagos FXD (wanted a watch with black dial and bezel). I plan on adding a BLRO to complete the collection. The LV is fantastic and was always my #1 desire. There’s no right or wrong answer. Both are fantastic.

The LN can be a 1 watch collection. It was my first and it was my only for a few years and it could and did everything well.

I am in a similar situation. I have a blue dial datejust which I am totally fine as my daily. I am looking for a casual watch think short sleeves summer time and shorts. Since I have a daily I am leaning LV as I think it is more fun. The black is classic and nice but I like the LV.

IF you can get a Sub at msrp, the LV is the best deal (if that matters).
I know what you’re saying, the black is classic and traditional but if you want something that pops, that’s not overly in your face with color, the LVc is perfect. Honestly I would take whatever the first one comes in and let fate decide.

Here is two of my pics for reference in similar positions:

Definitely Black! Goes with everything, and is classier. What you said about “those in the know”, you will only meet those people here. True enthusiasts are few and far between, and we don’t judge. Call your AD, and ask them to change your preference to the LN. you may get it faster, too. Better choice for a one and only.

Imho first Sub should be no-date version. Why? Because the GMT has a date function, so for that GMT seems the logical 'next choice' imho.

Black sub is boring. Too many other people have the watch. The LV just has a splash of color which I find perfect

I love the LV, but if you really think this is going to be your "one", I'd get the LN. Good luck!

I never understood the massive appeal for the black (LN).
Seemed so plain to me.
So I started with color subs and bought the LN last.
Now I know why the LN has such a following.
The LN is my daily watch and the others all get weekend turns.

For a first I would definitely get the black LN. if you don’t, you will always secretly admire it until you do get one. So versatile.
