People complain about OP releasing too many models...
everything is relative, i guess......
kind of puts OP's 2013 SIHH in a different light, wouldn't you say? (btw, thanks, puffy, for the picture. it helped me make a point about your "favorite" brand, panerai. ) |

Hi Cru, yes I understand that I am one of those who "complained".
I am not trying to defend myself here, but I'm just stating out my opinion. If you lay out Patek's release, and put them next to Panerai's release, side by side, you'll see what I mean. But that won't make you agree with me. (Disregarding brand, price, or anything else - just pure model) I don't see Patek having Nautilus with Power Reserve, then with brown lume, then with blue hands, then with gold hands, then with tobacco dial, then tobacco dial with gold hands, then tobacco dial with blued hands, then basic with logo, basic with no logo, then you add a pig, and then no pig, then with chrono, then with chrono and power reserve, then with power reserve date... you get what I mean. Nautilus, for all I know, only have 3 basic dials to choose. Plain, Chrono, Calendar/moonphase.

i get what you mean, and my post was slightly tongue in cheek, but, as with rolex and patek, OP brings outs variations of its models. that's what PP did, and there are a LOT of models there. and look at rolex: slightly different GMT, a YMII in stainless steel, a daytona in platinum with a different color bezel and dial, a full range of day-dates with different dials and straps. i see less there than OP at SIHH 2013, and OP is infinitely smaller than rolex. with OP this year, one saw a new case, a new regatta movement, a sub in ceramic, a new in-house 8-day manual for the 111. sure, there will be repetition, but part of that is that they are moving to in-house movements and part of that is that they are working within the restraints of the panerai design language. as for the list of your changes, i don't think one specific model has seen all the iterations you described, from A to Z. |

Agreed Cru. I wasnt dissing Panerai completely, I still love my PAMs, just wish they had a different approach. Nonetheless, another thing I'd like to "complain" about, their inhouse movements should be a little more exposed. They pur a display back but the movement is enclosed anyway lol..

No more pictures of that 5227, please! I swore no more dress watches but can't take my eyes off that one.
