Patek 5960/1a (steel)

Just wondering what most people's thoughts are on this piece. The majority of the opinions I've read so far have been mostly negative but I wonder how many have actually seen it in the flesh (I haven't).

I'm strangely drawn to it, especially the dial. I also respect the work that must go into the bracelet and polishing of the overall piece.

Opinions?

I didn't like it when I first saw the pictures, but have now grown to like it. Will have to reserve final judgement until had chance to see irl.

I haven't seen it live, but I think via pics it's stunningly beautiful.

I love it.

Definitely unusual appearance. I think I'd prefer brushed SS, but it might grow on me. After all, it is a Patek.

I like this watch. But want to see it in person. I want to see the contrast black an white looks in person.

Seen for real at Patek.

It has real presence..
But it's a bit like what the Daytona should be. This sounds bonkers, but it's like a Patek/rolex.
It's a stunner though...

I think it's very cool, but I think I'd rather go 5990 if I'm going to go SS. Not sure though, as white dial is intriguing. I wish the 5960a could support a strap, but design won't permit. That would be a no-brainer.

I would like it better on a waterproof strap. Bracelet is too pretty for a sports watch

That doesn't mean they don't swing and miss now and then.

I liked the platinum one, not this one.

I like that they are releasing something unique rather than another leather strapped dress watch. It's refreshing and bold for a company that could otherwise remain mostly conservative and predictable. My opinion anyways.

What is the WR of this watch? If it is a sports watch I hope it is at least 50m! I am on my AD list when they get one.

Honestly it's not my first choice. The 5960 represents the classical complications line - the old WG/gold 5960's oozes elegance and class. The SS encroaches on Nautilus territory, and as someone has mentioned 5980 and 5990 are the ultimate sport Pateks.

The 5960/1a is only a viable option if you must have a daily-wearer SS Patek that is not a Nautilus or Aquanaut. However, I have yet to see it in person.

I like it. The bracelet reminds me of the one on the annual calendar, which I have Always liked. The dial is too contrasty, but maybe there will be options later?

I don't think this watch has made it out to dealers yet. So those who have seen one in person probably saw it at Basel or at the Geneva salon.

In a recent conversation with my AD, who tried on the watch at Basel, he thought the 5960/1A seemed more "proportional" by having the SS metal bracelet. Because the former 5960R/P came with a leather strap, the thickness of the watch was more noticeable. However the metal bracelet somewhat "masks" the thickness just like you see on some of the thicker Rolex sport watches.

There will be some collectors who will order this watch just for the reason that it is a SS watch. This makes the watch fit into a small category of Patek SS watches that are not of the Nautilus or Aquanaut line of watches. But if you are like most watch owners, you will try it out at an AD when it gets delivered and see if it is a watch you would like to wear or not.

The bracelet is special, but the dial is really awesome
But why they didn't make that watch waterproof ???

Love it. And the price point means it's going to be on a lot of wishlists

bit of a breitling/rolex smash up. not a diss against either brand - just what i see when i look at that piece. the only "negative" for me is the date window surround treatment.

Funny, the date window surround treatment is one of my favourite aspects of the piece. I love the contrast.

With you. It should have been made waterproof. Then, it would be on my wrist.

It's advertised as being water resistant to 30m. Is that different than being waterproof? Pardon my ignorance :/
