Shipping Rolex Internationally

Dear Forum Members,

I am planning to ship a Rolex watch to a family member. I am in the US and my family member is in Hong Kong. If you have experience shipping a high value item internationally, I would appreciate your advice. Any recommendations on the best shipper to use for such a purpose, and also any recommendations on 3rd party shipping insurance to get? (I was reading that UPS, FedEx shipping insurances don't actually cover high value items like watches and jewelry).

Any advice much appreciated! I tried searching on this forum but didn't see an equivalent thread on this topic. Please point me in the right if there is already a good thread on this topic.

Thank you!

I’ve recently shipped a watch to Dubai. As an individual it’s a pain in the ass and I’ll save you a lot of time and trouble. Ship it via FedEx International and then go to securus.com enter the value plus tracking number and it’s automatically insured for 1% of the value. My watch got to Dubai and into person’s hands in 4 days. Make sure you include the recipient’s email to avoid delays.

If FedEx make sure you complete and include a FedEx Commercial Invoice form. Otherwise it will be held up at the recipient's custom clearing system.

Some manufacturers and dealers use Maica-amit for insured high-value items.

Fly to HK to visit your friend wearing the watch.

I don't understand the "1% of the value"?

I think Tavli3 meant the insurance premium is 1% of the insured value of the watch. E.g. if the watch value is $10K, Secursus will charge you $100 to insure it.
