Panerai Holy Grail

Hi all,
This is my first post on this Panerai forum but I felt compelled to contribute.
I had a business meeting yesterday and noticed that the gentleman sitting opposite me was wearing a left handed Panerai. During lunch I commented on the watch and asked him about it.
He proceeded to take off the watch, hand it to me and proclaim that it is the Holy Grail for Panerai fans. I looked at it, thought "nice watch, nothing special" and handed it back. He then proceeded to tell me that he is a watch collector and has a vast collection but this particular watch was for sentimental reason his favourite.
As Panerai are not my usual flavour (although I did come close to buying a 00270) I didn't know that the watch he was handing to me was so special but you guys might just appreciate a LEFT HANDED MILITARE !!!
Apparently these watches literally sold out immediately upon release with collectors scrambling over themselves for one.
As i mentioned earlier "nice watch, nothing special" but then again I like Rolex !!!

Must be a PAM 26, not one of my favourites, i think they're overpriced and not exactly the best, in the UK they're going for around £9000 or above, which is the same price as a 270, the differences between these two are night and day, the 270 has 10 day reserve, GMT, in-house movement and a lot more, the 26 has a PVD finish and a basic ETA movement.

I was the same as you once, i thought Panerai was nothing special, but like everything you have to try it, i went for Rolex mainly due to the name and the legend, but with panerai it's not about the name, it's all about the look, feel and the strap changes

The new in-house stuff really is lovely, especially with a sandwich dial and domed crystal, Rolex for me are a bit bland these days, although once i save up again i will get another submariner date as it's always nice to have a rollie

Jackson,

Got hooked by 16610 in Dec 06

Next I figured I need something big & leathery.

And I need something that matches Rolex's history, design & technology,

Only thing that came out from the hat is PP, AP & OP.

For OP, I started off with 104 in Jun-07.

I then realized 104 is auto-date and Panerai's history is manual with no date.
So, I sold e 104 and got a 219 which is e last piece using old lever hinge and e last piece using embossed OP logo at the caseback in Oct 07 for my bd and a 217 during my Swiss alpine ski trip.

I crashed the 217's case during e same trip on a bike.
The case & bezel cost me SGD5000.

As times goes by, I got a prototype shadow 56 in Mar-08 during my LA trip
I got a discon't 243 during my San Fran trip in Aug-2008.
Finally, just before CNY tis yr, I traded my PP5711/1A-001 for a 127 to complement my 217.

I also traded my AP EOD, T3, RB1, RB2, Polaris, PP5980/1A-001, 5712/1A-001, 3800/1A for other PAMs like 1, 4, 9, 16, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 36, 88, 90, 111, 112, 176, 123, 187, 190, 194, 232, 240, 249 & 270 but had to let them all go since Aug 07 due to financial constraints.

I hope to get a 26, 239, 292 & 322 soon when my wallet stop bleeding red.

Along the way, I lost 2 gf....
No animal were injured.
