Patek advice for a Newcomer
Fellow Patek Enthusiasts,
My name is George. I have been recently reading the Patek forum in anticipation of adding a Patek. I have seen many of your great pieces, and appreciate your vast collective knowledge of Patek. I am wondering if you could offer me your brief advice on my potential purchase(s) based on the following summary. I live a fairly casual lifestyle. I own my own company, and rarely dress formally ( rare charity events, weddings and funerals). I have many watches, but seem to wear my Rolex DeepSea the most as it seems to fit my lifestyle. The Pateks that I'm drawn to are the 5167A, 5130G/P, and of course the 5270 and it's predecessors in J/R. I have never spent more than 10K for a watch, so this is new territory for me. I don't view myself as a potential collector. I intend to buy what I love, and what I will wear. At the same time, I want to be prudent in my acquisitions. I plan to move on a 5167A soon, but am already plotting my next move! Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

My advice is tread carefully as the price might go down in the future You should visit an AD, spend some time talking with them and start building a relationship. 5167a sounds like a great start, although beware it is the complete opposite of your DSSD in every way imaginable. |

Well, that's a large price range you are considering. Every patek is terrific...so perhaps try on a few or look at lots of pix and pick the one that speaks to you.

That is indeed a wide price range with the 5167A in the $20K range to $40-50K of the 5130G/P to the $140-150K range of the 5270. They are all great watches, but for different purposes.

I like the 5167 precisely because it is cool-casual, and totally unlike my rolexes. I'd say more clean, beautiful and refined...

The 5167A is a very popular first Patek watch for that reason. It doesn't mean you can't get a 5130 or 5270 as a first Patek. But these are not your everyday wear watches.

Enjoy the journey! Take your time and as Ken said, buy the right piece and at the right price.Have you considered looking at the 5711 blue dial?

Part of the attraction to Patek is that they have a broader product line than others.
I still don't know if I can bring myself to spend for a grand complication, but my vision of what a watch should be was forged on classic Patek moonphases( 1518?) |

No disrespect to the Nautilus lovers, but it's just not me. Interesting that I like the Aquanaut, but not the Nautilus or AP.

5167 is a great choice and one of my favorites - arguably the best everyday patek
The question is if you can stretch to a 5167, then you can probably go for this as well |

You'll love the 5167A, it's my first Patek and I think it's just fantastic.
