Tried on the new PAM 1036 the other day, but how durable is the DLC coating?
the DLC(diamond like carbon) looks nice but anyone knows how durable is it? because once it got scratched there is no way to polish it back to previous status. i like the luna rossa sail cloth dial, have a texture look in it, the watch is very light weight as the case is made of titanium. would like to add a gmt watch to my collection, any comment on this one?

It's gone too far from Panerai's DNA. Pontroué is really pushing the envelope and is doing to Panerai what he did to Roger Dubuis, which I think is entirely the wrong direction for any historical brand, let alone Panerai.
But thats just one man's opinion. Yours may vary. |

You’d have to appreciate the way dlc wears to justify purchasing one new. As far as that particular watch is concerned it’s quite attractive imo.

Not durable to answer your question. Nothing like ceramic. That watch is to contemporary imho to be dlc. They should have made it ceramic or carbon. I’m sorry to say but it looks thrown together. Maybe better in real life but expect to lose big if you don’t like.

DLC will scratch and like you said there is no way to repair it or to bring it back to its original condition. If that bothers you, then stay away from it.

Part of the appeal of DLC is the aging and wear that make each piece individual to the owner. I have seen older DLC Panerai pieces that are scratches and faded that are beautiful in their own way. If you expect it to stay pristine you might want to look at another material.
