closing a Rolex back at 5NM Torque?

I have often seen on Rolex advertisements that a Rolex back is closed at 5NM torque. Is this done with a special closing wrench with a break over release function, that as soon as it reaches 5NM it will not add further turn?

I would assume that Rolex Authorised service centers would do this at service as well?

Good question, you are correct, the closing tool has a preload set in the "knob" that clicks when 5Nm has been reached.

(The blue one in the middle is the 1019 closer)

Thanks for that!!!!! Just the answer I was looking for.

I had always wondered how tight a Rolex watch case was actually closed. I wonder if they have always been closed at 5NM torque or if it is something that has only just been decided since the newer models have been made.

I'm not sure exactly when the 1019 was introduced, I have been using one going on almost 20 years now, and the first one I was using had a few miles on it:) so I would guess its been around at least 30 years.

As far as the 5Nm that is the spec I was always told, I do not have a date when that was introduced, my guess would be at least 30 years ago if not longer.

Cheers.
