Submariner on ebay...

Anyone care to comment on the authenticity of this watch?

A friend emailed me the link and claims it is 100% authentic.

Not an expert on that model, but it's very hard for me to purchase from someone who isn't a watch dealer or who has under 100 feedback. BUT since you live in toronto, perhaps you could work out a deal that if you purchase the watch the seller must be agreeable to meet you at the rolex building in toronto for authentication -- if he wavers at all than you have your answer -- for $4,000 he should be willing to take the 2 hour drive

Good call or at the very least I don't mind driving to Ottawa (used to live there and am overdue to visit some friends) and close the deal at an AD in Ottawa.

The pics might be bad on purpose.

You're pretty safe if you close the deal at an AD, but as the posts on this forum have indicated, even ADs have been fooled by some fakes. It just depends on how good the fake is and how good your AD is I think. The limited number of feedbacks for this seller is a huge red flag for me, but then, everyone has to start somewhere. I'm also not impressed that the seller had one negative feedback which lowered his rating to just over 90%. As others on here have cautioned, you buy the seller, not the item, and this seller is pretty much an unknown quantity. I'd definitely want the AD to do more than a cursory check. I'd want him to look it over very carefully, check all the numbers, check the bracelet equally as carefully, and then spend the time to open the case and see that all is right with the Rolex world inside the case.

So I send an email indicating that I am 100% commited to purchasing if it is genuine. Not wanting to risk what I consider a substantial investment, ask that we meet at Howard Jewwllers in Ottawa to have their certified Rolex rep validate the authenticity.

Would want a full inspection inside and out, willing to pay the shot as I would also like to have it polished, if it is a Rolex.

Would have a bank draft on hand to complete the deal...

No word back yet. But will see.

Having said all that, I believe I will be abandoning this venture and my purchase will be from preownedrolex.com

Many great things said about this dealer and have communicated re a couple of fine Rolex watches.

I was thinking the same thing, but with Watchgeek vouching for him I did not comment.

The picture shows a Z serial number on the hang tag but the watch has the visible lug holes in the case. Ask the seller for the first few digits of the serial number. If he says Z xxxxxx, RUN LIKE HELL!

The bezel pearl looks too big and it's placed incorrectly within the triangle. Also, I can't say exactly what it is; but something looks wrong with the winding crown. It could be the lighting or angle of the shot....just doesn't look right.

Make sure to meet him at a Rolex AD and get it authenticated by someone with good Rolex knowledge (preferably a watchmaker).

Best of luck,

Rawhyde
