First Vintage Rolex Sub Advice Please

gents,

looking at getting my first vintage rolex sub. i have about $7k to work with and was thinking 60's - 70's era subs but if there's a particular model that someone can suggest that's currently undervalued in their opinion, please offer it.

i was thinking metres first no dates?

thanks in advance.

Undervalued relative to what?

If you're looking for speculation about which watch might increase most in value...well...that's gonna be tough.

Just buy the best example of the watch you like most within your budget.

that would be up to the individual... its not up to speculation but in general, it all is. i'd like someone who has exp in vintage to offer opinions. simple as that. perhaps undervalued may have been the wrong word but i suppose scarcity, ref# production run, significance (historical or otherwise), etc... anything helps.

i'm currently leaning to a 5513 but maybe i'm missing a diamond in the rough ref#...? i don't know but i'd like to learn. thanks

You could also get a later 1680 in that range.

Can't tell you which would be best to buy. My personal preference is a 5513.

Maybe a beat up 5512 if that's more your style.

ahh, see, this proves i'm new at vintage... well, we'll see if it gets moved but apologies in advance if this was an error.

so far so good though. 1680 wasn't on my mind.

Personally, I love the 1680. There's something awesome about the tophat crystal and the steel date wheel. But if you're not a 1680 guy, then the 5513 and 5512 are cool too. If that's your first instinct, then it's probably the right choice!

Matter of taste.

I personally would go for an 5513 (or 1680) with matte (maxi) dial. Meters or feet first is not so important for me. Better to look for original dial, nice tritium hands and inlay with tritium, and not to polished.

Here is some pictures of mine 1978 maxi dial 5513:
