I’m the only one? (Tudor GMT)

So frustrated trying to buy a Rolex sports model from a DA, I seriously consider calling it a day and buying a Tudor GMT. Yeah, it’s chunky, but I love the retro vibe and it’s only 4K. Then, I look at that ridiculous (weird) hour hand and can’t bring myself to pull the trigger.

Yes the snow flake hands are not the prettiest thing in the world but overall the watch is fantastic. I like mine very much and it is the most worn in my collection despite being the cheapest.

Well, if you can't bring yourself to buy it, then it's not for you.

To me, watch buying is a personal, emotional decision. What appeals to one person may not have the same effect on another.

For what it's worth, I like the Tudor GMT.

Agreed, the snowflake hand turned me off, thought I was just being a weirdo and showed it to my wife and saw the funniest expression from her, lol.

The watch itself is beautiful minus the hour hand for my taste.

I wonder if the Rolex GTM hour hand can be exchanged.

Don't do it if you're not 100%. You'll get buyers remorse. Just hang in there, or go Grey Dealer.

I'd like to echo others here by discouraging you from settling for something you don't want. Have you considered getting a 5-digit Rolex GMT? A lot of owners love their 16710.

If you don’t love it why would you even consider it? SMH. Don’t let hype dictate what you want.

It’s not all about aesthetics, that hour hand was made that way so deep divers could easily distinguish between hands for timing at depth.

The Tudor dial is IMHO double legible than the Rolex dial. Love everything about the GMT particularly the hands. This is what makes it so special. Compared to my SD43 dial, the Tudor is less deep and therefore the hands shine like they have their own light. Fantastic design not to mention the beauty of the bezel hues used.

Why put a chrono on a diver. People have an issue with Tudor for doing this.

Too chunky and weird hands? Sounds like you're rationalizing because of you inability to land a Rolex.

^This. Plus the snowflake hands have a historical significance to the Tudor brand.

Yea I like it myself and I love the BB chrono. I didn’t buy it as it’s a bit big for my wrist but the modified Breitling movement is a cracker and it’s the perfect do all tool watch. Just like every other Tudor it’s amazing value for money

I personally like the snowflake hands, they are no less ugly than the Rolex ones it is just that you have got used to seeing the Mercedes style so accept it more.

From a luminosity perspective the Tudor ones are technically superior as they hold more uninterrupted glowing material.

Different brand, different hand.

I love the snowflake hands and as stated above are probably one of the most recognizable and readable out there.

I just got one to hold me over until when, or if, my AD ever allows me to get the Rolex version.

Since Tudor had a history with the snowflake hand, it makes sense to use them on a diver/ GMT.

I wish Tudor used the THC handset on the BB chrono. Easier to read the sub dials and there's brand history with that handset as they were used on the original Monte Carlos.

But as you say, Tudor provides lots of value for the investment.

I have the snowflake hands on my Black Bay. I like it, but it is up to the eye of the beholder.

Sorry for your frustration and its understandable. There are options at a premium, but if you can be happy with the Tudor, I'd say why not. Tudor's build is solid and you will appreciate it. When the time for the Rolex comes, you can make the choice to flip.

If you can wait it out longer, I'd say set it and forget it. The day will eventually come.

For what it is worth I own both and the BLRO and Tudor GMT. The Tudor gets all the wrist time and has dominated my small watch lineup since it showed up.

Its not that the BLRO isn't an absolutely stunning watch, the Tudor just suits my style more at this point in life. On the bracelet or a nato it wears amazingly well too

You need to love the snowflake hands. It's why I got my BB. But, otherwise, you'll still look at the Rolex with longing eyes.

I'd suggest buying what you really want, and put the BB money towards a Grey Market buy. It's better to buy what you want.

Just wait it out for the watch you want. I wanted Sea Dweller, I got impatient and bought a Pelagos. I never wore the Pelagos and ended up trading it. I got the call for my SD43 a month later and couldn’t be happier.

On another note the Tudor gmt is one of my favorites and I wear mine regularly. It is a great watch but if it’s not for you pass.

I love Snowflake hands. It differentiates it from Rolex. Great watch to have as part of a collection.

BUT as a one and only, wait for the Rolex.

If you’re dead set on one model, I’m not sure buying the Tudor is a useful exercise, unless you’re good with the prospect of potential ending up with both. A potential alternative might be to buy the Tudor, rock it until/unless you can get the BLRO, and sell the Tudor if it doesn’t work for you.

However, it also sounds like you have design reservations on the Tudor, and if it was me, that would be a showstopper. More tool watch vibes than shiny parts compared to the BLRO, which works for me, but not for everyone.

I own and enjoy both Rolex and Tudor. I find the snowflake hands on my BBN and GMT charming and interesting to look at, and think both provide great value for the money.

I’m enjoying my BBN today on the rivet bracelet from my GMT, and the rivets are another feature I like that others have varying opinions on. To each their own.

Function-wise, the BB GMT has been fantastic for me, and very comfortable on the wrist. The deeper, rounded caseback and bevels on the underside of the case allow for a great fit for me. The GMT’s a thick watch, but I daily a few different Sea-Dweller models, so that doesn’t bother me a bit. Great watch.

Quality/price point I went for the Tudor GMT. No issue with date change and I love the leather and fabric strap options.

No, I'm sure you're not the only one.

But, as the posts in this thread would suggest, there's quite a few others who do appreciate the watch.

To each his own.
