New scam hitting Facebook and Instagram

I got an email from UCF saying a scam is hitting social media. A few student's have fallen for this. If you fall for it you shouldn't be in college. The scammers are asking you to buy a money pack and they can add a 0 at the end. If you buy one for $100 you get $1000 and if you add $200 you get $2000. I did some research on instagram and type in moneypak and it amazes me how many people fall for this. Scammers are stealing pics of Rolexes, Lambo's from other people and making it their own. If you have a teen tell them don't fall for this.

Wait, what??!! This doesn't work? Crap!

I just yesterday sent a $100(0) moneypak to an official in Nigeria, to help him get some funds out of the country.

Now I'll have to send him another $900 to make up the difference.

I agree. If you're that damn dumb...

Moneypack seems like it would be used by criminals

This is one reason I never use any of the so called social network sites.

It's always funny when somebody posts on a forum, a social media site, about how they are anti-social media.

It's hard to stay off the grid, but I do my best to have a limited number of online profiles. I do not use facebook/myspace/twitter/instagram, etc...

I am a member of a few forums, but TRF is really the only place where I am active. I wish I could delete my accounts on all other forums.

This one has been going around for almost a year and it's really just another spin on the "dropping a 20" con game.

This blog goes through how it works..

I've spoken to a few admins and they are all reluctant to delete my account. They have offered to ban me, but isn't the point. I don't know if there is any technical downside to deleting an account.

The data held in the server backups is there for years. So your email addy and any other pertinent data is only as safe as their weakest security link.

Tell me about it, but what can you do? Really, there are only two forums that I would like to be removed from. I'll ask about changing my profile to guest.

I got a random call the other day from # 1-000-000-0000 I picked up and a computerized voice prompted me that there was something wrong with my bank account and they needed some pin's for authorization. Call enough people and some will fall for it unfortunately.

This "guest" option is nice Wes. Give it a try and let us know.
