Trip to Cambridge/London

Well, I haven't been posting for quite awhile now, due to my trip to the London/Cambridge area for a wedding between the 25th and the 30th of July, and then trying to get back to some semblance of normalcy at work to catch up. Anyway, great trip - wore the GMT-Master II on the trip - natch!

Here are a few photos taken during the trip:

The church where the wedding was held in Cambridge:

The bride's father (left) with me just outside the church:

King's College, Cambridge:

Entrance to Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, where the reception was held (the bride & groom are recent graduates):

More photos of the Corpus Christi courtyard:

The bride and groom with my wife:

London - The Temple Church (hard to find):

Walking up The Strand/Fleet Street to St. Paul's:

Cheers, my friends! Enjoy!!

LOL - no more so than you, Mr. Ersatz Kojack!

And yes, Cambridge is indeed beautiful. Photos do not do it justice. I'll post a second round of them shortly. I'll still look like a tosser, though...

They send me chocolate (Ritter Sport Dark)!

I seem to recall a package from you that never quite made it to me...

Thanks for the welcome back, Frans.

I know. The English don't make a REALLY good chocolate, especially dark. Cadbury is about it, and I really can't get behind that. Nothing like a good bar of Ritter Sport Dark. I usually can't find it in the US at all.

Thanks, Peter. We had planned to go punting with the bride's family, but time did not permit. I have promised myself to return to do just that, and to visit the other colleges of Cambridge as well, and not just Corpus Christi. Perhaps we can have a mini-GTG when I return!

Beautiful place, Cambridge!

Looks like you had a great trip, Allan. Cambridge is a beautiful town and the University is just what you would expect from a British school of higher ed.

How did you get invited to the wedding?

Have any good fish & chips while you were there?

We have been friends of the bride and her family since 1992. We met them in the Lake District while attending a Beatrix Potter Society convention. She spent a few weeks with us here in Florida, along with a school friend of hers (a bridesmaid in the wedding) on her way back from New Zealand at the completion of their "Gap Year", and just before she entered Cambridge and her friend entered Oxford.

Yes Ed, VERY good Fish & Chips in London (I had Chicken Tikka Marsala at a restaurant - The Copper Kettle - right across from King's College while in Cambridge - photo below. You can actually see King's College reflected in the restaurant window.) at a couple of locations. We wanted to go to reportedly the BEST location for Fish & Chips in London, Fryers Delight in Theobald's Road close to where we had rooms, but it was closed over the weekend.

Thanks, Steve. The best Fish & Chips I've ever had were served at the Magpie (my friends from Richmond called it "The Thieving Magpie" because they thought the prices were too high) restaurant in Whitby, on the North Sea. The fishing docks were right across the street from the restaurant. EXCELLENT!!!
