I know the watches are very different, but lately the Omega dark side of the moon has really caught my eye, and really conflicted as to whether I should sell my 233K dot dial to fund it. I consider the 233 to be one of Panerai's modern classics, and my only manual wind watch.

But the DSotM is just so well constructed, and I really like the all ceramic construction (including pushers, crown, and dial), and both the polished and brushed effects on the watch. It also has a great in-house movement, just like the 233.

Unfortunately I can't keep the 233 and get the DSotM, so if you are in my position, would you sell the 233? Appreciate everyone's input and thoughts.

Will also post in the Omega sub-forum to see how the reactions differ

It sounds like you really like you 233, so no. The DSOTM is very impressive though, and I can see why you like it.

I think the 233 is a classic and the DSOTM is just a new interpretation of the classic speed master and may not hold its luster in time. With that said the dark side does look great so do what you like!

Have you tried the Omega on your wrist? Adorable for someone but can be too flashy too. Well actually exactly like your PAM. Tough call. I am afraid I can not help. What about the chrono, do you have one in your collection? But then again - the PAM movement is gorgeous. You need both, they are so different ;)

I love everything about TDSOTM.....except the price. I was offered a 10% discount BNIB and I probably could've negotiated more. But I walked away. Tough choice as both are great watches.

Both are really awesome. Go with your gut. Personally, the 8-day manual + GMT + dome + strap madness pushes the needle to the 233. Buuuuut, if I really really wanted the DSOTM, I would at least consider the trade if I could stretch the budget and add a 000.

I would honestly flip it for the DSOM. I saw it the other day in person and it looks amazing. The feel of the strap and the look of the movement is very nice. I would visit and AD to take a look at both watches together and it will make whatever decision you take a whole lot easier.

It's been quite difficult to track down a DSotM at the ADs in town, and so haven't had a chance to try it in person yet. I agree I do want to see it in person to see how "shiny" the polished ceramic bezel, case and dial would be. Being able to own both the 233 and the DSotM would definitely be the best case scenario, but unfortunately not possible so thus the dilemma.

I think I do need to find one to try on in person.

Great wrist shot! I agree the price of the DSotM is quite high, and one of the reasons I am hesitant on picking one up as well.

In terms of thickness would you consider the DSotM to be comparable to a Panerai or is it even thicker?

I tried on a DSoTM at the local Omega Boutique last weekend. It's thinner than my 164, 351 or 005, but thicker than my Radiomir.

Since I cant choose both I would go with the dsom watch because it is ceramic and long warranty

My preference is for slim, low profile watches and while this wasn't ultra thin I didn't notice the thickness so for me that meant it was a perfect fit as I have 6 1/2inch wrists. The ceramic is very shiny and I think part of what appeals about this watch. I couldn't help being mesmerized the entire time. But at $10k plus I can't justify the expense when there are others in that price range I'd rather have. Best of luck!

I dont know if it felt that way but the 005 and 164 are documented thinner by quite a margin

I guess the lighter weight helped create the illusion that it was a thinner piece.

I might do it. The DSOM is great in person and on the wrist. The 233 is perhaps "the" modern Panerai, but it's not like they won't be available if you change your mind, or want to have both in the future.

Good to know as I have a 6.5" wrist as well. Yes, I think the shiny ceramic is the main attraction for me to the DSotM. Need to find one to try on!
