My actual first Rolex

When my great uncle passed away I got his 1960ish (I believe Rolex). His wife and him were very frugal yet worth millions. They ended up donating ALL of their money to a college by the name Rose Hulman.

Anyway, I felt terrible for my mom because she cares for them while they were sick as they had no kids of their own.

So needless to say I sold it and bought my mom a bunch of things to show her my appreciation.

Sadly I don't have the watch anymore, but the goal was to make my mom happy.... And I'm not a fan of gold. Yet also the face was too small for my wrist.

Here she is:

So in reality my real "first Rolex watches were my datejust and explorer ii"

Nice watch Tye ...

... and a nice gesture to sell and acknowledge your Mum.

I'm thinking it's an Ovettone 6105 or similar - perhaps earlier than the 1960's.

Whatever reference it is, it's a good looker

Yeah it may have been pre 60.

Sad to give it up but my mother has done so much and deserves so much more.

Like I said, the face was just to small for my wrist.

You're a good son. What you did is more important than owning what is probably worth a lot of money, vintage Rolex. Kudos to you!

Looks great on your wrist, if that's your wrist in the pic. I would say mid to late 1950s. Beautiful piece.

I'm sure I didn't get nearly what it was worth from the jewelry store I sold it to. But business is business. I understand everyone has to make a profit.

These look better though lol:

Those two are more practical. I can't wear them to work because I'm a cop. I will wear them to court in my uniform though. The explorer is pretty much the all the time watch. And the DJ is more for weddings or if I get to put a suit on for something. Very rarely.

Just got into contact with the dealer I sold this watch to and he is going to see if he still has it in one of his 8 stores inventory. If he does, I'm going to buy it back. I think maybe put a Nato band on it, and it would be perfect. Granted my Mom came first, but if I could buy it back for a few hundred extra, it would be worth it.

Let us know how it goes. It would look great on brown croc (nato, not so much maybe).

Bad news, the jewelry store I worked for back in the day sold it a few month ago on eBay.

No big deal though. Everything happens for a reason.

That's too bad. I wonder how much it went for.

Dear dstacy,

If you are talking about my grammar, or anyone else's in this thread, I will fix it just for you.

However, I did review your last 20 posts and observed quite a few errors on your behalf also.

Obviously, since I just quick type from TAPATALK, on a cell phone,it may not be perfect. I would assume that goes for most here.

Correction:

I have horrible, awfully bad, terrible, no good news. The jewelry store that I used to work for sold the Rolex on eBay several months ago.

In the long run, it is not that big of a deal. Mother always said that everything happens for a reason. She also reminded me how rude some people can be on the "interwebs."

By the way, I really hate the fact that I have both a Bachelor and Masters degree hanging on my wall. It's a darn shame I was able to complete a thesis and am half of the way through the first draft of a book.

It's also sad that I will see and experience more trauma, heartache, violence and destruction in one month than the general population will in their entire lives. So please forgive me if I forget a plural vs singular grammar error etc.

Here is to making the Internet forums perfect.

Cheers!

Sentence structure doesn't seem to be a major strength for you, either.
