5164A-001 or 116719BLRO

Two very different watches with travel time complication. How would you choose? I am a bit biased towards Patek and that's why I ask the question here.

In this particular case I would choose based on value retention considering both purchased new. I like both VERY much. As you said: both very different watches and very nice for very different reasons. But the 5164 is the better bet when it comes to value retention.

Split the difference and pair a 5167 with a Batman or vintage Pepsi.

Some additional data for your consideration

Quite the split decision back then. I would be pleased to own either. Good luck

Had the same dilemma (started a similar thread as well) and went with the Patek. Less than 3 months later, it stopped running. Was told that it took another 3 months or so to get back from Patek's service department. Decided to flip it, with full discloser of course.

The experience doesn't take away from owning Pateks, as I own several without issues. However, I'm now inclined to believe that the GMT offerings from Rolex are overall a more robust watch, especially with the ceramic bezel. I will be adding a BLRO to the collection in the near future.

Hopefully you'll have better luck in your decision!

Probably the 5164, but I do like the BLRO.

This was a hard question, but I'd pick the BLRO out of these two. Rolex is a much more robust watch IMO.

I am not a fan of Pepsi, Batman, etc. The 5164/1A is one of the lightest and most comfortable watches ever!

Having owned a WG Sub, and trying on 5167 and 5164 (finally deciding on 5167R), I would NOW recommend the 5164 especially if comfort matters.
Also 5164 has a better GMT function in my opinion.
Can't go wrong either way though.

I find the Rolex 24hr hand easier to read. Both are great. I would take the blro first in this case. But no wrong choice

I know this is the PP section but I guess I'm the odd man out, I'd go with a Pepsi 116719. It just puts a smile on my face. I never had the 5164, but I did own the 5167 which was super light on the wrist but just a bit odd and scratch magnet. The Aquanauts are a bit strange - too sporty to be a dress watch and too dressy to be a sport watch...

One of the reasons I love it... Not like any sports watch or dress watch, yet can function as either.
Wide range of wearing opportunities, versatile, comfortable, beautiful and of course PP

I think they both have their uses. The Rolex is indestructible while the PP is classy. Pick the right tool for the job.

Agree here.

I don't have this combo but have the BLNR and 5990.

I like the BLNR a lot but am not 100% super in love with the case; the fattened lugs are sometimes too much for me.

Having said that, the BLNR can take whatever I throw at it...

5167 is good but I've already owned a 5711. They have the same movement.

Agree with you Patrick - I had the 5167 and while it is a great watch, I found it light (I know the 5164 is heavier and has a nice complication), but with the choice I'd go for BLRO.

I second this. Why settle for 1 when you can get 2?
Get a 5164 and a BLNR, problem solved.
