Impossible to say. My children and grandchildren will inherit Rolex watches among other things. They might treasure them, give them away, sell them, or put them in a drawer and forget them. It won't make any difference to me. If I believe I can tell my kids what they will do with things I leave to them, I have a bridge to sell myself.

It’s an odd question because if I’m going to wear the watch for the whole of my lifetime, I can’t put personal style/ preference aside!!

Ignoring that, I’d guess it needs to be mid sized, steel, black dial, long-standing model, sports range. It’s kind of hard to look past the Sub… and probably a 40mm version.

Get it - but that wasn’t really the question and sorry if it was vague. It is more of what model you would choose given the long term use through generations scenario. What model do you think will stand the test of times best.

I’m thinking

1. Sub - one model you can be sure will look the same in 50 years
2. Maybe Daytona?
3. GMT, as a model yes, but a bit more trendy looking maybe as it looks now

If the watch is to be worn for generations, then it should be as neutral as possible with respect to size, color, and features so that it wouldn't polarize or be less wearable by a woman. If my girlfriend, for example, were to inherit a 40+ mm watch, she would never wear it. And since not everyone likes the cyclops, that is a feature that should in my opinion be avoided in this scenario.

Based on these considerations, my suggestion would be a either 36 or 39mm Oyster Perpetual with a black, grey, or silver dial; or a 36 or 39mm Explorer.

I think these models have the potential to be appealing to almost anyone even 50 years from now, assuming or course that the descendant in question likes to wear a watch.

Been though this with many different popular sports models. I finally now only have the 12LN, only one I can see wearing a lifetime and it is my sons favorite which is the point of the tread, so black sub date 126610LN. It has a timeless style and won’t go out of style.

Well, since my youngest son already confiscated a vintage 34 mm OP, from me, I’ll go with that. My new 36 Op will probably be his some day, as well. My other children have not shown the same interest as has Ian. I do, however, have restored Seiko 6139-6002s, for all 4 of them, as a keepsake, to remember their mom’s passion for cool mechanical watches.

Whats it like wearing the meteorite GMT as a daily? Do you get any stares or feel unsafe wearing it out in public? Thats one heck of a watch as a one and done piece.

I really love the watch, it’s weight makes you really feel you have a watch on. The dail is just gorgeous. I haven’t got any stares or anything. No one really seem to recognize the watch in my surroundings. I had to go to RSC in NL to get some warranty work done because the watch was losing too much time, when i walked in the AD they really went nuts. All the reps there wanted to see and touch the watch, they never seen one in the flesh. When i picked it up, the reps came again to compliment the watch.
