My Grand Seiko knowledge is very limited. Curious to hear TRF members’ thoughts? To me, it seems like that right blend of technology, style and an interesting backstory. I tried this one on today and really liked it.

Wondering, among other things, if it will hold its value?

If I get it, I’ll use funds earmarked for a Tudor 58 or the upcoming IWC Spitfire 39mm release.

I don't bank on any watch holding its value. If that is a requirement than I would buy any watch.

Rocky, this hobby has a very simple rule of thumb when partaking in it — if you can’t afford to lose 50% of what you spent, then put your money elsewhere.
Anything less than that should be considered a bonus.

Good point Toxic Avenger. I wish I took a better picture. I very much like the clean look. I’ve also been considering a Milgauss. Cleaner look than my sport watches. But the GMT function I find helpful when traveling overseas. Oh, and I love the sweep! And the accuracy.

Thank you PJS. Agree. Having said that, do you feel the watch is a good value? I suppose that is subjective too. Well, it got my attention.

Having recently got into the world of Grand Seiko my limited knowledge and research has shown me that it comes back to buy right and not get hurt. If you can secure a 20-30% discount off a new watch or 30-50% off a good condition pre-owned model you will not get hurt too much when you sell or trade. The real value with Seiko or Grand Seiko is in the Limited Editions. They typically retain much, if not all, of the value and some even increase. The challenge with the LE models is the AD's and Grey Market dealers know the drill and you will pay more. Go find the watch or watches you are interested in and see what the watch is selling for on the Grey Market and through your AD. Make a decision and get youself a great watch. My two LE Seiko's.

if you buy new and want out, change your mind, you will probably lose or have to wait a good while for the best return. Grand Seikos are great watches with a lot of interest, but you will lose unless you get a great deal. In that way it is like a car, immediately devalued when you drive it off the lot. I see this as kind of a "big boy game", and have to take any loss in perspective.
