Has anyone tried to have a watch customized by patek phillipe? I know there are some out there, Does anyone have experience with this? For example a unique one off dial ect..

Good question. I have a few qualifying questions before I can answer.

1) How many crew members serve on your jet?

2) Does you family own a country with a lot of sand and oil?

3) How many grammys have you on your wall?

All jokes aside I would assume access to such treatment comes after many million have been lit on fire. Not for the average rich guy with a dozen pateks.

PS: I am rooting for you being a huge boss and being able to land one

But I did see the old Leicester chairman have a load of pateks done with the football colours on the hands etc, I think it was the 5960 for when they won the English league

I didn’t know that. How terrible. Also didn’t know chairman referred to the owner so of course he was well connected!

Almost purchased a custom 3939H minute repeater in rose gold with black dial. Alas, the price was far too high, plus the size is a bit small by modern standards.

Reminds me of the story Mr. Stern has related about a collector wanting the name of a different city on the world timer. It took many chance meetings at exclusive PP events around the world and over and over meeting Thierry to make it finally happen.

Rolex, what's that?

In 1976, didn't Philippe Stern pitch to have the 3700 be worn by Jeff Bridges in King Kong, with a King Kong launch edition?

Or was it to be worn by Gregory Peck and The Omen edition?

LOL!

The popularity is so incredible for the new models too! Very much enjoy seeing many posts of guys here buying the latest Patek minute repeaters. Heard dealers are having a hard time filling orders for them due to high demand. Did you get yours yet, as in Hong Kong everyone seems to have a Nautilus or Aqua. You need something far better, and special, to show to your friends then just another mass produced Patek. Which custom timepiece did you get offered?

I tried.

All rejected, was told the 5370P is not a piece they allow to be customised - probably a good idea. There are apparently other pieces where they would allow hand changes.

The idea was to initially differentiate the rattrapante hands but keeping within the colours Patek actually uses. Developed from there.

I actually asked for the grey hand version at the top where the grey hand is hidden until split.

That would have been awesome!

The only thing I did was change my 5227g strap from shiny black to semi matte brown and it’s really a different look.

Easy to do.

Rappers have been customizing their Pateks for years, am sure one of the craftsmen in SoCal can very easily create this for you. It's just a single hand change so very easy to just paint the stock hand to red / orange / etc. One rapper (2Chainz or ???) bought two different Pateks just to change out the dial to have a blue one instead of stock (gray color?).

Just to have the stock hand painted, very easy to do too. Dial changes to custom is far more interesting. My wife has a custom Rolex we had made, with custom pink MOP dial with flowers / diamonds, blinged out case too. Just a Patek hand color change should be extremely easy and inexpensive to do. Look forward to seeing your custom creation.

I suppose if you get invited to Basel each year for a private viewing of some of their special pieces or unique pieces, Patek will also do custom watches for you. Until then it is probably wishful thinking, although you can always ask your AD.

I recall a member here recently ask Patek to change his 5711 date wheel to match the blue dial color, and Patek did it for him. He showed his "upgraded" 5711 in his thread also.

Couldn't find that thread, apologies.

Didn’t see that, the only recent photos I spotted with a blue date wheel were of a 3800 that had been purchased.

It was the 5960/1A-011. WF sold one for £ 31950 and it was below the MSRP of a 5960/1A

Makes sense, though over the decades custom jobs are (usually) more intricate than simply a single hand change. Think bigger, include the dial / band customizations and ask again :)

And yes, as much as guys here make fun of me (it's all cool), know a few guys who have had custom pieces made. Just remember that pricing should not be a concern, as it is whatever they request. Again, you truly need to think of something far more unique / special. Personally, would lean more towards enamel dial to go along with custom hands. Perhaps some case engraving too, though yes we each have our preferences and all that.

If you're still desiring a single hand color change, am sure you can easily get that done. My vote is for orange color :)
