Tried out the Moonwatch today. First impression
I have no experience with the Moonwatch but thought I share my first impression.
Is the vintage look that I love about this watch! Not a fan of the metal band. Nato band would look awesome for the causal days. I am a bit shock at the price tag! I close to Subc price~ Overall, I have to admit, it is not as exciting as trying out a new Rolex. My view only, other may not agree. I will look for a used moonwatch over new one I think. :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Really depends I guess. If it's a keeper wouldn't hurt to buy @ a significant discount through a trusted seller or an AD that discounts about 25% for the keepsake box etc. The classic Speedy pros hold value well and don't depreciate that badly if you buy smart in this regard.
I do agree with you....I think the Speedy thrives on straps. I have different ones on straps and bracelets and I always go back to the straps. Enjoy and god luck! |

The list on my Moonwatch in 1975 was $295, so I think I'm doing well.

Speedy is a watch you buy and keep. The bracelet is fairly decent, especially when you compare it to what Rolex had to offer for years. Straps are fantastic as well. I prefer the non-NATO variety as they allow watches to sit lower on the wrist.

I've owned a few Speedys but they never stuck around. I also agree I'm not a fan of the Speedy on the bracelet but much prefer it on a leather or croc strap.

Yep, get a used one and wear the hell out of it. I got mine used for a great price and I absolutely love it. It's my go-to weekend piece. Just grab it, wind it, set the time and go. No date to worry about setting, and you know it can take whatever you throw at it because NASA beat it up with tests and it passed with flying colors.
In the winter I have it on a cordura strap (DSOTM envy!) but all summer I keep it on the bracelet. Very comfortable. |

The speedy is great because you can just have it on a strap and it looks fantastic.

I've owned a Speedy. Ended up not bonding with it. I want to love the watch, but I just can't.

An omega AD is offering me $5000 CAD for the moonwatch and $6000 CAD for sapphire version.
Are they good price? For me to pull the trigger, I will need a really good price or I am going Rolex again. What kind of pricing should I expect for used? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The thing I like about the entire Speedmaster line is the incredible offering of models. There are a lot of misses but many home runs. I give it to Omega - they at least try to offer something new and different each year. It sure makes collecting them interesting if you branch out from just the standard moon watch. The Mark series is great, the 42mm autos are interesting - especially the broad arrow editions. There is a lot to like. I picked a 42mm auto that is a pretty good take on the old Daytona 6263, I modified with board arrow hands.

I was chasing a 1968 pre-moon on ebay at the weekend. It went higher than I was willing to pay considering a dodgy relume meant it needed a new dial, but at the right price I'd have jumped on it.
I tried the current moonwatch at Cyprus duty free a couple of years ago and was really tempted. If I'd had a 0% credit card in my pocket.... |

I find the Speedy to be perhaps my most versatile watch... looks killer on a strap, cool and casual on Nato and I would wear it with a suit n tie on bracelet or croc strap. Its an all around well rounded watch.

Not to hijack the thread, but I have my eye on this one. Any thoughts?
Thanks,

There are few watches that are as versatile in terms of looks. Speedmasters are special because they go great on a bracelet, leather, and nato.
I always prefer to get any watch on a bracelet. It's a lot easier to add a deployant and a strap later on. |

Great watch, but some folks will note that early versions of the 3313 movement had issues. Those issues were supposedly fixed by the time the later versions of the 3313 movement were released. The watch's dial is 44.25mm, so bigger than the Speedy Pro. On the plus side, it wears smaller that its size (like the Speedy) and is not tall on the wrist. |

Give it some time and see how it grows on you. I was growing ever more fond of mine, but I had to eventually embrace the reality that it was just too big for my wrist. At that point I realized that selling sooner vs. later would be less painful. Not a happy day, but truth was it only looked appropriate with long sleeve shirts, and that wasn't enough justification or versatility to tie up the money.
