Story leading up to your first sports piece?
When you started your journey with a Patek authorized dealer….how long did it take, how much did you spend, and what references did you spend that amount on… prior to being offered a nautilus or aquanaut?
Let’s hear it. Thanks in advance. |

I won’t bother you with pre August 2021 methods but as of today it’s spend spend spend, depending on your location your up against some stiff competition, the Nautilus and Aquanaut models are now about accumulation of wealth if your in the position to get one.

Got my first Patek this year although I had purchased Rolex previously. I got a 5168g with a 5172g and awaiting a 5396r with a 5167r for the wife although I can see both ending up on my wrist as well.

I got my 5167/1A without any wait in May 2017 - it was there in the display case. There were many other sport models that were available from time to time, like 5711 white, 5712, 5980, 5726 and 5164 back in those days.

This exercise is meaningless for today but I'll play. I picked up a 5711 blue as my first new Patek in 2018 after waiting 2.5 years w/o any prior spend or history. I had to shop around as some ADs basically told me to move on when I asked for 5711 blue as a new customer in late 2015.

My journey began with me turning down a 5167 at retail (actually 5% off) back in 2017. It would have been my first patek. With no Patek purchase history the chances of me buying another became zero and regret sank in.
Last year for my 40th bday I bit the bullet and paid market value for my 5167. No regrets! On my wrist right now. One of my all time favorites. |

5960/1A was my first patek from AD. followed by 5168G, 5212A, 5524G, 7234R, 7118/1200A, 5235R then 5726/1A blue dial this year. Hopefully more to come...

Never been really free like that in London, only the 5164 and the gold models were regularly in ADs in the mid tens, even got my 5711R the year it came out with no waiting and a little discount.

5711, very minimal spending history, acquired from my AD in 2020 after a 9 month wait.

No spend, got a 5164 at discount, posted about it on TRF.
Didn't talk to the AD again until 2021 and got a 5712 a few months later, while having a DD 36 on order with a hefty deposit. https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=537804 |

Tongue in cheek but it took a long time for me to get my first sports Patek and it was 2016 when I finally gave up on the “waiting list” and went grey.. luckily it was 300hkd for a white 5726 which was not far off the same as retail prices back then. Not much love for the annual calendar nautilus back then! Different times..
Always buy what you like is my advice. Regardless of in current favour. |

In 2019 I bought a rose gold Twenty-4 for my wife’s birthday and a Datejust for myself. My AD called me for a 5167a a few months later.

You never know actually.
All depends on ADs.

Went grey for a 5711 since then acquired a few non-sports PP. Kind of in reverse

I called a huge AD and said do you have a 5167A in stock. They said yes. I said can you do 18,000 on it. They said ok. I bought it.
That was 2014. Round two I wanted a 5711. I planned to cold call every US AD but ended up finding a 5711 white in stock about 8 calls in. I offered 23,000 they accepted. I bought it. That was 2015 Round 3 I walked into a Patek AD while traveling and tried in the 5164A. I liked it. Called back 3 days later and offered 31,000. They accepted, I bought it. That was 2017. I haven’t bought a Patek since.

Silly me hadn't realized how relatively easier it was in the US compared to Germany around 2015. Back than I was still back and forth a lot, New York, Midwest, Florida, but my only effort was at Tiffany in New York. They didn't think it was funny when I asked about a 5167. Was xmas time too. Which of the above stayed, if any? |

None lol they are all gone. The first two I sold at a loss. The 5164 I did pretty well. Always sold because my want for something else never ends. 2014-2015 you could have bought 5726/1A, 15202 5980 even in NYC. I recall a 5712/1A in the window at wempe.

I ran into a friend of a friend who was wearing a 5065 in 2016 and having never really loved the Nautilus or Aquanaut before that, I had never even seen them in the steel. However seeing this 5065 I was totally converted and wanted to get my hands on one.
Early 2018 I had had enough with not being able to get a Pepsi or Daytona from my regular long term AD, so I thought I would try another AD which had Patek as well as Rolex. I figured I may as well get a spend history with a sports Patek. So I asked about the 5167 and was told “no the wait is too long on that one so the list is closed. But we can get you one on a steel bracelet in about a year” So put a deposit down. At the time the aquanauts were selling on secondary under the retail so it wasn’t to much of a surprise and then in early March 2019 I got the call. By the time I picked it up the hype had just about started. Now two and a half years later I have just started a wait for the 5164 which they said could be about 1.5 years. So all in all. I cannot complain. Still can’t get the darn Daytona I want but who cares. I have a 5167 to enjoy in the meantime.

I acquired my White 5711 Steel in April 2018, after 1.5 years wait and no spend history, I remember when I put my name down in late 2016 the list for the blue was closed but white was open and they said around 6 months wait.
After that the demand went crazy and 6 month waiting time ended up being 1.5 years, but can't complain as I still got it in the end.
