Do Patek AD's know what's coming?

New to the world of Patek having ordered a 5524G a couple of months ago from my local AD.

At that time, they told me they expected it to arrive in June.

(In contrast, my Omega AD has no idea what's arriving. Life is like a box of chocolates at Omega when the courier drops off a box of watches).

Does Patek Head-Office advise their AD's what is in transit?

As I need to liberate funds to cover this purchase, it would sure be advantageous to know with some degree of confidence that my AD's delivery estimate is accurate and not based on wishful thinking.

When I ordered from my AD, he was able to provide an estimate timeline when the order was confirmed from HQ. But it is an approximate timeline, so it can be off by a month or so. My 5320 was confirmed for June/July but it is coming in early.

Not sure if this is for all ADs though.

I have been told by two AD’s that they place a wish list for the year. Patek then sends them back a list of what they’ll send out for the year. They don’t know when they’ll come in just that they’ll come in sometime during the year. They’ll then get a few random other pieces throughout the year. I don’t know how accurate that is but these are guys I’ve trusted.

The 5524G must be more popular over in Canada!

In Hong Kong it seems nobody wants them. My AD has had 5524G on display for the past year, and they have one more in the safe. In the Central district where we have 5 ADs within like 5 minutes walking distance of each other, several of them have the 5524 sitting in their windows for months already ...

To answer your question, I think each country does it differently. My AD tells me sometimes it's like opening Christmas presents when a shipment arrives, because they don't know what will show up. Sometimes discontinued models show up several years later ...

Don't know how popular they may be here in the Great White North, but I do know of one that arrived at another AD...only learned about it after I put down a deposit.

Perhaps Canucks lean towards larger watches?

The 5524 isn't that big. It's definitely less chunky than a 44mm Panerai Luminor. But yes, our wrists are generally smaller here!

I think it's less popular because it doesn't scream "Look at me! I have a Patek!" but I may be wrong.

I wonder if we do see more 5524s around because it is a newer model so Patek may shift production to focus on the new model(s). I know other brands do.

That's something I hadn't considered.

In fact, when deciding which Patek for my first, I picked the 5524G as I found it the least blingy.

In respect to Panerai, I have three 47mm's!

Some ADs are told what to expect for the month that a shipment is coming in. Not necessarily further in advance.

Other ADs are more connected with Patek, and they tend to know more further in advance.
