Embarrassed to ask for ss Daytona

Like so many of you I would love the holy grail ss Daytona in black or white dial but preferably the black ( I would also love the rose gold chocolate face). I am so embarrassed to ask my AD for one, I think he will roll his eyes and have a laugh at the back as they must get so many requests for these, I have a small purchase history, 36mm diamond dial MOP datejust, that paved the way for a batgirl 2 months after asking if he could get one and a bluesy but metal sub within a week or 2. I have also introduced my father to this AD who has just purchased a 41mm DJ for 10k. Do you think this would entitle me to getting me on a list or being considered? I always send thank you cards to the salesman who I deal with he’s not the owner of the shop just the watch salesman

Welcome, No harm is asking, may be a while but if you don't ask it's 100% you will never see it. Good luck.

I would ask that is a reasonable purchase history and you never know!

As above - don’t ask don’t get.
My AD’s response after a few watches -

“I would know you would be interested if one were to come up”

Very diplomatic ha ha

I was chatting with my AD this last weekend and pretty much ran into the same. I was like "And of course I'd love to own the Daytona Panda some day, but I know it's never going to happen", and he agrees. But he also said that if there's a Panda for another customer, he'll call me and let me try it on at least and then can put me on the list if it fits well and I actually like it. He did emphasize how they're really trying to sell to only local customers and not wanting to sell to flippers. At the same time, he welcome that I sell my own Rolex to them, to upgrade from one Rolex to another.

It does happen, but will depend on purchasing history and other factors

I am very grateful to him he got me 2 really hot models really quickly, I couldn’t believe he got me the batgirl after 2 months and the sub after a week. I don’t want to be greedy and don’t want them to be put off by asking for only the sports models and the good stuff. Do any of you know if you have to spend a certain amount to get considered?

I understand your feeling!!! Firstly, I’m a anxious person, but I always feel awkward asking for sport models in general. Almost like I’m guilty of being another person wasting there time. But I over analyze all my social interactions and give myself crippling anxiety

Yes!! I feel exactly the same as though I’m not worthy for even asking such a thing! Pathetic I know but I find it all so intimidating

It's great if you can see one in person and try it on. It's funny, last Christmas I helped another member get a PS5 for his son, we met up at KOP mall and I had my SS Daytona on and let him have a look. He was very surprised that it was smaller than he thought. I love the fit, it's super comfortable and you don't even know its on compared to a Sub or other larger model. Good luck to you also.

That's selling power when people are afraid to even ask to buy. I get it. But you have to admit, Rolex is holding all the cards.

I just don’t want to mess up my chances of getting other models, don’t want them to think I’m going to resell for profit, I don’t know whether this is true but the salesman told my husband that he has only ever seen 1 ss Daytona come in the store in 4/5 years

A friend of mine spent £100k+ out of a very big AD in London buying the typical slow selling TT’s and hard to move PM pieces, then got a sub, GMT & Daytona within 6 months.

Of course, he sold them all for a huge profit.

I’m never going to be able to spend over 100k

I’ve spent around 45k
But that includes 2 sports watches

I think it really comes down to the rapport you have with the sales staff.

Not a success story.

I’ve spent a great deal at my AD over the last few years, several Rolex which I PX with them for upgrades plus all the watches on my signature plus a 31mm TT DJ with diamond bezel for my wife and over £25k on jewellery for my wife. The AD knows I’m interested in a SS Daytona but they only get 4 or 5 a year and says it will be at least 15 years before they have dealt with their VIP’s needs.

So how much must the VIP’s spend?

On the plus side has said I should have a GMT on jubilee by the end of the year!

I think you're slowly working toward a Daytona. Keep buying things, definitely ask, and maybe in a few years you'll have one.

So along the same line: is there an amount that the OP needs to spend before perhaps getting a SS Daytona?

Entitled? Come on now, do not think less of yourself. You have the relationship, your spending money, go and ask for it. If you don't show interest your sales representative will never know that you want one.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

If you don't ask you don't get. That much is certain.
