Icon20 Shock resistance

hi guys

6 days a week I drive an electric scooter for work for an average of 30 minutes per day - all this time I am keeping the watch in it's soft leather case that is stored in my side-bag. These 30 minutes of course come with strong vibrations and small to medium shocks from the road - every day.

Long term can this damage the watch? Or make it wear out prematurely?
Should I be worried about this?

I got my 16520 Daytona back from Roles Service and a complete overhaul a few months back. Since then, I notice that if/when I do my exercise ropes (700 per day) the time will mess up and sometimes stops working a few hours later.

Since I started to take it off zero issues.

It’s probably better on your wrist that provides plenty of shock absorption.

I never understand why people would carry a bag with the watch inside but the wrist vacant

I never understood why anyone would want to ride a motorcycle or scooter with $10,000+ on their wrist. Have you ever seen a motorcycle crash?

I actually did see a motorcycle hit on the side by a left turn car. The rider was thrown up in the air at least 20 feet high and then landed on ground lifelessly. The impact speed was probably no more than 25 miles.
Anyway, remind me why are we discussing this? Is there the correlation or causation between wearing a Rolex and being hit by car?

Lots of things can happen in life, bumping your wrist to a door frame etc, these are having higher chance then falling from a scooter.
If you fall more often than bumping your wrist to a doorframe should you not ride the scooter?

Feels kinda odd to carry it in a bag to your next destination as someone else said unless you’re falling off it a lot lol.

and your hip/thigh likely crushing the watch, shattering the crystal which will scratch up the dial and get in the movement....

It seems as if you could just as easily fall and land on the bag.

There’s a difference between leaving it a home and having it in a bag though lol. I would also be far more concerned about damage to myself than the watch lol.

Having said that! I think your watch will be fine OP which was all you really wanted to know . :)

Literally just posted a similar topic about BIKING.

I think we are good though.

There’s a recent Watchbox collector conversation on YouTube with a former navy seal. He said he wore his sea dweller through everything, all the missions, all the shooting, training etc. without issue. Although sea dweller has better water resistance than other Rolexes, I don’t believe it has superior shock resistance. This makes me think a Rolex can handle basically anything.

The only thing I won’t do with mine is play golf, as I typically strike the ground quite hard.

I've seen 'em and I've been in a few of 'em. Never wear a watch riding my motorcycle.

I have been cycling with my Submariner though.

Do you really think that in such a case the condition of their watches would be the most important thing for riders?

I noticed that my Sub sped up a bit after wearing it while hammering in stakes into the ground. I have since been more cautious when wearing expensive watches which may be subjected to repeated shocks. I use my G-Shock if anything at those times.

For your situation, I think you will be OK. Any impact would not appear to transfer directly to the watch. Maybe a cushioned storage case for extra protection while in transport. But likely fine as is.

I'm not going to judge here because I'm the kind of guy who takes off his watch to play soccer in the backyard with his 8 y/o...

Shock resistance isn’t really the definition here but rather the fact that the hairspring is probably getting a vigorous workout. It takes a certain amount of time for the hairspring to stabilize after a strong movement and if these movements are in succession that interrupts the hairspring from stabilizing.

I got knocked down on the freeway and went across 4 lanes of traffic at speed. Totaled my bike, put me in the hospital. Broke my scapula. My 1680 was fine.

It makes no sense - you are comparing a scooter crash that happens at 20-25 MPH in which the drivers wrists are more than likely scraping the pavement hands first, which does happen even to an experienced driver - to hitting a door knob or table slightly biweekly... it is not the same damage - not even the same category

Ya do realize that during WWII, a lot of front end US military wore Hamilton mechanical watches ..in WAR! If the watches survived trenches, I'm sure a Rolex will fare much better for a motorcycle ride.

I can say they don’t work great with golfing. I had to send 2 different watches to rsc multiple times due to golf. A Pepsi GMT that had the hour hand sliding around twice, and. Ceramic Daytona that would run crazy fast like 8 minutes an hour. RSC covered the services but it was still annoying.
