2023 Daytona 126500 is not 40 mm

Hi all. Apparently, despite the metal bezel ring, it looks like we have the same 38.5 mm we’ve had since 1988 and again in 2000. I say 38.5 because it appears the caliper arm at 3:00 has small gap.

I’m sure we’ll see more precise measurements with a digital caliper. Yes the case is slightly wider ala the outgoing PM cases and should wear slightly larger. However, at best it’s 39mm.

I don’t think Rolex measures their cases that way. My understanding is they measure at 8 and 2 or 10 and 20.

From what I can tell it’s very similar to the the symmetrical lug case of the previous Gen seen in wg pt and rg. That watch case was just under 40.

On change though is how the bracelet fits with the lugs. You will notice the bracelet didn’t sit flush with the 1165xx symmetrical lug version. This update does.

That was my feeling of it on the wrist in Geneva. I had my 116509 on the other wrist and the footprint felt exactly the same, as the lug profile is now the same across the board. I haven't owned a steel Daytona in quite some time, but from what I recall it wore slightly smaller than PM references. I think that distinction is now gone (apart from the weight, at least).

I was never a fan of the Daytona. Bezel, and dial too busy for me.

At the very least, the steel model should wear like a PM model.... and from experience I can say the PM's wear slightly larger than steel.

I know everybody did not expect a major change, but if you get an extra .5-1mm out of it, the larger wristed Daytona fans should be happy, and the usual Daytona wearer will not feel too out of place with this new reference.

I thought most of use knew the size didn’t change by how Rolex described the 12 Series Daytona. By Rolex marketing, Rolex would have advertised a Daytona 41 mm if they changed it any way bigger.

Thats a measure of the bezel. Not the case

My bezel measures 38.5 and my. case 39.8. Its a 509

The bracelet was always flush on the 116500ln but not on the White gold, Rose gold or platinum models. Now with the 126xxx models they are all flush

Same, but I never imagined Rolex could make it worse. The bezel and subdials look awful.

It’s a bigger watch, closer to 40-41mm.

Agree, it's updated movement, and bigger which is ok, but everytime I see pictures it doesn't look as good as the old 116500. The new black may be better looking. I don't hate it, it's a steel Daytona after all, but there is something wrong with the new white look I can't put my hands on. Maybe in real life it's better.

Interesting, not enough difference for me in the size to make a difference. The metal ring around the bezel is an addition I have not decided on yet.

to me, adding the metal ring makes the new panda looks less bold and dressier.
the discontinued panda is bolder and sportier.

Interesting, I think opposite: that the new metal rim makes the watch look more like a tool-watch. Probably because the bezel as a whole is now a composite (ceramic + steel), whereas before it was non-composite (all ceramic). And in my mind elegance degrades with composition: the more "things" make up a whole, the less the whole is elegant.

Oh, to be a fly on the wall in Rolex when they made these decisions.

exactly the opposite! the steel ring bezel now fuse with the case, more like a unibody design. while the previous panda ceramic bezel were equipped on top of the steel case, like gear up, thus looks sportier.

I'll probably never be able to fondle one let alone buy one (Apparently too valuable to be an 'exhibition piece' to allow fingerprints from the unwashed masses)

Interesting, thanks for sharing. I'll be interested to see the 116500 and 126500 in side by side comparisons

The steel ring bezel is still a bezel. Its not fused with the case.

Its a separate metal part with a ceramic insert, rather than being a separate ceramic only part.

i mean visually, while the old panda ceramic is equipped on top the stainless steel case, like a motorbike rider wearing a helmet.
