GMT 70th anniversary now in 2025…

The Rolex website now says the GMT was introduced in 1955 so the 70th anniversary will be 2025 and not 2024 as expected. How will this impact the possible changes we’ll see at W&W 24 regarding Pepsi, Batman and Sprite and on the launching of a new model?

“ As the successor to the model presented in 1955 and adopted by airline pilots, the GMT-Master II has become the ultimate cosmopolitan watch. With an additional 24-hour hand and a two-colour rotatable graduated bezel, it displays a second time zone”
Per Rolex website

Does the above rule out an all black bezel?

Pepsi to be discontinued this year, replaced by the Coke, leaving place for the platinum with ice blue dial gmt master 2 in 2025.

That’d be an instant piece Mark Wahlberg would buy for sure. And it sounds amazing.

Good catch. I think the slight alteration of the Sub bezel for its 70th is a clear indication that the GMT line will receive some change in 2025. But who knows.

Nobody knows and your guess is just as good as anyone.

Maybe it will be yellow & black bezel insert! I think whatever color scheme comes out; the Rolex GMT will always be hard to get.

I think the 75th anniversary would be far more important to commemorate the model. Maybe they tweak something at 70 though, who knows …

All we can do is wait and see. Only Rolex knows what's coming.

Its always exciting to see what they have coming or going. I just can not see how Rolex cannot bring back the coke bezel.

Nice move Brian having the crowd wait an extra five years for a Coke model.

PM Coke this year, SS Coke for the 70th? New releases are usually PM for 12 months before SS comes along.

Ok, we will see something on the GMT side of the collection this year and it still allows them to do something else next year. My speculation.

Honestly? I feel it's unlikely..

We got a new GMT left hook in 2022, we got GRNR last year ('23) and we may get something for the 70th next year '25 (fair point, they may wait until 75th anniversary). Therefore, all we will see this year if anything is a discontinuation of a GMT (BLRO?).

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who heard from her AD that....

No one knows, yet we'll be seeing more posts, and of course various 'influencer' clickbait YouTube videos in the coming weeks. THAT i can guarantee you.

Ok I think you made up the first part, that’s fine.

What about the apparent change in anniversary year. Wasn’t 1954 the standard accepted year the GMT was introduced? Now it is officially 1955. For those expecting an anniversary update this year how will it effect the release and discontinuation?

I would really love a platinum GMT with iceblue dial on the 75th anniversary.

I feel like we've seen a change to the GMT collection every year recently. Anything is possible.

Rolex will take the path of least resistance. A right hand “sprite” will be an easy move. A BLNR discontinued for a ss GRNR is very possible. Rolex will also release the Coke but only in PM first. I believe they are working on the red ceramic and why the BLRO has slowed its release the last 3 months.
If history has taught us with how Rolex works, we will see the case and bracelet morph into something similar to the Sub41. I suspect that will happen on a major anniversary.

This is the way……..

That’s true, Rolex hasn’t been shy the last couple years about bringing out something new, so why should they stop now?

A possible u-turn would be the red-hand espresso.

Rolex was saying 1955 at least as far back as 2011 and likely well before that.

Technical issues?

Red ceramic seems to be beyond Rolex's technical capabilities. would a coke bezel start off as all black with red added (the BLRO is all red with blue added hence why its been purple)

Wouldn't surprise me if the CHNR was born of Rolex's attempt to make a "coke" cerachrome bezel

They did nothing for sub 70th... way more iconic than a GMT.

By the 75th anniversary for the GMT (I'd like a steel with a white dial !),.....My prediction is,... and with a new factory at Bulle, there will be all models on display in all AD's windows by 2029 ??

This probably means the GMT gets a new model refresh in 2025 instead of this year. Therefore, we will probably get something new from the Submariner this year since everyone said there was practically nothing in 2023.

Don't know why the Coke has been delayed so long, after the BLNR this would have been the natural successor while they worked on getting the Pepsi right, which did take them a few years to get rid first of the grape and then near black blue. Even a Coke now is a bit of an anti-climax now the Pepsi has been pretty much perfected, just very odd sequencing.

What kind of reaction would a Red and Brown bezel get? Instead of Coke. Now combine that with an ice blue dial, in a steel case rather than platinum.
