Help: Considering a big trade for a 5811/5711
Hey friends,
I would love some advice. My current collection consists of a platinum DD 40, RG Olive Day Date 40, Panda 11650LN, Sub Date, VC Overseas Blue dial, a random IWC. I’m at the point where I feel it’s time that I step up and acquire a nautilus for my collection. Although I already feel that I am at or above the ideal number of watches, since I don’t really wear them all regularly, so I am thinking of selling a few and consolidating into only special pieces. I have no relationship and buying history with any Patek AD so I’d have to go grey if I wish to acquire a 5811…. Would I be crazy to give up, say, my submariner, VC, Daytona and add a huge amount of funds to get my hands on a 5811? Perhaps I opt for something like a 5711 instead? The resulting collection would be my 2 DD’s and the 5811/5711. 3 really heavy pieces feels like the right general mix for me right now, as I’d get to truly wear/enjoy them all. Thank you Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I did the same recently. I had 4 day dates and an AP royal oak. Sold the AP and some rolex's and am now left with a 5164R and an olive day date and some cash. I plan to get another yellow gold day date again in the coming weeks and that will be my 3. 3 feels like a healthy number while being able to enjoy them all

I, personally, would let go all of them, except for the platinum DD, add cash and get 5811G or just straight swap for 5711

Everyone's opinion would differ, but I'd trade the platinum DD 40 and the VC for the 5811. The rose gold DD 40 with Olive is the best daydate to own IMO, and I think having 2 of the same watch is redundant... The 5711 is nice, but doesn't compare to the full PM 5811.

I'd do the trade but give up the RG Olive Day Date 40 (instead of the Daytona) plus the Submariner and VC.
As to 5711 vs 5811 there are pros and cons for each depending on what is important to you and how you'll use it. I like steel for an only Nautilus as it gets less easily banged up if you use it a lot including sports like myself. Also prefer the dial color, no date frame, and the original 40mm size of 5711. That said, the 5811 has a modern clasp with microadjust and a two-piece case construction closer to the OG 3700. |

TBH, go for the 5811G... It's so special. I've worn the steel 5711 for a few month, and now have the 5811G, and will tell you that imho, it's a huge upgrade in every way. The extra heft of the white gold is incredibly satisfying when you put the watch on. New clasp and micro adjust are a must. New dial is beautiful. It does feel less "sporty" compared to 5711, but that's not a bad thing imho.

plat DD40 is understated, but super nice dial. imo, more special than the olive sub date does nothing for me daytona is a staple of any collection I'd consider keeping hte VC overseas blue if you have the funds given how special the dial is. |

I'd keep the daytona and RG olive DD, get rid of all the rest and go for a 5711.
Nautilus, as mentionned above, is supposed to be steel!!! |

I’d keep one DD, the VC (nice to have a steel watch and the strap changes are nice) and the 5811.

If going grey for both, 5711 at $60k lower, 160 vs 100?

I think giving up PM watches for a 5711 will leave you wanting so I’d recommend the 5811.
I recently sold 2 PM Daytonas and a steel Royal Oak (+ lots of cash) for a 5740. There’s a big difference in the feeling of a steel vs PM nautilus especially in the bracelet IMO.

Get rid of the IWC.
All of the other watches have something positive and special about them. I'd also avoid selling the ones where there is a sentimental attachment. If you're someone who is never going to settle, then sure, swap whatever works for you. There isn't really a wrong answer. Now, if you had posed the question in terms of speculating value appreciation, there probably is a more specific answer to the question. |

I know opinions differ, but I absolutely hated the tinny bracelet on my 5711 and love the new bracelet on the 5811.

I would sell the Sub, one of the DDs and the IWC. You’ll be left with a well rounded collection with the added 5711/5811. Good luck on the journey!!

Great watch the 5811, but not that great to give up any DD or the 116500.
You can trade the Sub, VCO and the IWC and add the funds to get it. A platinum DD40 with the fluted bezel is a sight to behold. I don’t think you are missing out much even if you keep the DD40 and not get the 5811. 38328332-4153-4948-9135-D99F87F3DE98.jpeg |

Not a fan of the 5711 or the 5811 and especially at secondary prices. I like your current collection and I would pause and look around for something more interesting. A Lange or other small production model would work better for me.

I’d snatch up a 5726 or 5712 on strap but I would not spend 160k on a 5811. I have seen it in the flesh - honestly kinda overpriced even at retail.
I’d rather get a 5740 if you really want buy pre-owned in this price range. That’s a dream only watch imo Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

This is tough. I have a white 5711 and plt dd and that’s a nice combo. But if you’re going blue, I’d say go 5811 for sure.

Keep 1 DD and go for the 5811, a gold Nautilus is rather special, and the new dial and clasp are real upgrades on the 7.

Lots of good options being thrown around. I don’t think you’d regret trading for a Nautilus. |

I would get a 15510ST instead of the nautilus and sell less watches. The nautilus is nice but not worth the current prices , it really doesn’t

Recently did a similar downsizing where I let go of 3x SS Rolex and picked up a new 5212a. Couldn’t be happier.
