Trade two Patek’s for a Platinum Daytona?

My white dialled 5711 sits unworn in the safe for “special occasions”. The 5167R gets worn occasionally but the Rose gold case although beautiful, shouts when worn with short sleeves.

I think now might be a good time to trade these watches for one I know will get more wrist time. I’ve been looking at the Platinum Daytona for a while now and seen it rise in price while deciding what to do.

I’ve been offered £30,000 for the 5711 and £23,000 for the 5167R.

Would you sell both and use the money to buy a mint 2016 Platinum Daytona for £46,000 and pocket the surplus £7000?

I know it’s ultimately my decision but I’m curious to know what the majority would do.

Thanks in advance.

Just curious before I’d answer....What else would you have left after the trade?

As much as I love the Playtona, my impulsive response is no freaking way.
You now posses the holy grail of holy grails.
Enjoy it, them.

If it were me , I’d turn over the 5711 and the d500. That way you’re replacing your....
A. Ceramic bezel
B. Daytona (Chrono)
C. Blue dial
You get all those back ...and...with the PT Daytona, your still left with a nice balance of PP and Rolex
UNLESS you just can’t wear the RG, but I think it provides a nice option for your collection.
Just my .02

If you don't enjoy wearing them, why keep them?

No. I would wait for the next recession to buy the Daytona. They were way under $50k just some 15 months ago. Mint condition $44-45. Brand new $50k. The current $55-60k is just too high. It’s a nice watch but not 2x nicer than a gold Daytona.

I'd sell the 5167R and apply the funds towards the P Daytona. The 5711 is a keeper.

Firstly, thank you for not referring to the Platinum Daytona as the Platona, Playtona, or any other such garbage. Secondly, while I am not a fan of either of the Pateks you reference in your post, I would not make this trade; however, its not up to me, its up to you and if you are hardly wearing them, it might be a good idea to trade for something you will wear and enjoy.

Solution: Daily wear the hell out of the 5711 and sell the R. Forget the Daytona.

There, I just saved you a ton of time and energy.

I was going to say the same thing. If the 5711 isn’t in a sealed box, you should wear it more often. The platinum Daytona is a great watch, but the stainless steel version is 100% more wearable.

If you're very active, which watch do you think's going to be able to truly handle that type of activity. I tend to wear my timepieces as beaters and am sure you know which one can easily handle it.... and which one will have loom fall out and perhaps other problems.

Just say no to Safe Queens.

Rolex all day long for the win.

I am in this situation all the time. Thinking of giving up some of my unworn watches for something that I will wear. Especially I have few NOS Patek which I want to sell away. But I am glad that I did not sell them as their value increase tremendously over these years and i am in better position to trade for watches with higher value.

And I own the 5711 blue and 5167A too. I will never give up these watches.

If you don’t wear it trade it for what you love.
Our collections evolve constantly , at some point you will get the right mix.
I do think two Daytona’s would be overkill and two 5167’s are a bit much. Trade from your excess and keep your diversity.

I like PP's a lot but don't know much about them. That said giving up these two for one Platinum Daytona doesn't sound like a great idea. RIchris1's suggestion is a good one if you are determined to get the Daytona. Staying with the PP's you have would be my first choice for you. Good luck, nice to be able to make decisions like this but also it is a difficult one.

If it means more wrist time then sure.

I would recommend keeping the 5711 and 5167/A and trading whatever else needs to be traded to get the 116506. The 116500 and 5167R are no brainers as you do not like the RG patek and will have a superior daytona incoming.

I would try to end up with 5711/1A, 5167/a, 116506, 116610LV

Agree with Tom, keep the 5711 and 67A, and move the D500 and 67R as that is just repetition.

Prices of the Platona have moved up, couple of years ago I was contemplating a buy at £35K.
