Need advice on Day-Date 40 purchase!

I'm ready to buy a rose gold Day-date 40 and I'm trying to decide between two dials and I could use your opinions.

I'm between the chocolate baguette diamond dial and the olive dial.

Assuming you liked both of them equally which one would you go with?

Do you think one has the potential to hold its value better or even possibly appreciate more than the other?

That's what I was originally thinking as well but since it has a retail price of $39k and they're currently selling for $55-60k I started thinking maybe they're already at a peak premium. The chocolate baguette dial has a retail price around $43k and they can be bought right now for $50-55k so it seems like a better buy since it has less of a mark up over retail.

Friend bought a new WG DD40 from grey with rhodium dial and sent it to RSC for a dial swap to olive green, paid for swap like $700. Saved like $2k versus WG with olive dial.

Point is dials can be swapped, better to look for best deal on the watch regardless of dial

Thats not correct. The reference number is exactly the same so it still factory. Thats the ONLY reason why Rolex lets you do it.

I heard they will allow most ppl to do it at service time. There were too many ppl buying the white dial or something and asking for them to be swapped to the Olive or Chocolate in order to flip but they caught onto that.

So I think now if you'd had it for like 3+ years and you want to do it they will allow it.

A brand new one? I dont think so.

you might actually be able to get the chocolate through an AD, at least it's worth a try. but if it's grey then yes it makes more sense financially to get the chocolate, but it's really up to which one you prefer. i feel like both are definitely worth their respective premiums, especially once you factor in taxes and keep in mind the olive might get discontinued eventually as it's an anniversary model

I've tried 4 different AD's and none have any inventory all the cases are literally empty. The only watch 1 of them had was a yellow gold Day-Date 40 with the white roman dial. Have any ideas how I might be able to source one at an AD?

they won't be in cases but you'd have to put in your interest and maybe wait 6-12 months. worth a shot imo though

I used to have both (although not the chocolate baguette but romans)

The green is beautiful but it got tiresome to me after several months. I'm not a green fan honestly so I flipped it.

They both hold value good. Green is super super hyped now so its currently selling for more than the Chocolate but the Choco is a close second in terms of hype.

Pick whichever one. You will love both.

Yeah that's my dilemma the olive is a $39k retail piece but they're currently selling for $55-60k. The chocolate baguette is a $43k piece and they're going for $50-55k so it seems like more watch for the money. I fear the olive dial might already be priced at a peak premium.

Regarding dial swaps, I wouldn’t open up a brand new watch. It creates a lot of room for error during the dial swap and just isn’t worth it IMO. Kinda like buying a car off the lot in the color you don’t want and re-spraying/wrapping it. Just hold out for what you really want.

Every RSC has different policies especially in the international context, some may allow dial swaps sooner during ownership than others. I’d phone and inquire with NYC and Dallas before pulling the trigger.

Thanks for the feedback and I agree with you on the dial swap. I'd prefer not to do it unless it was really worth the time and effort. Regarding the olive dial I also share the same thoughts being that it's an anniversary model I just fear the premium is already built in at these current prices and the baguette dial gets you more watch for less money.

Both of them are beautiful timepieces. I would preferred Olive dial at ADs/Boutiques but Chocolate with baguettes at grey.

You seem to have a two part question , Do you prefer brown or green dial? which will hold value over time? It is impossible to answer because the green dial 228235 was on the secondary market for 27K when it fist arrived. Then 28K then more internet talk, vlogs, blogs and now we are at a low price in the US $55K and see a high ask $62K in the US. What made the watch so desirable. Wanting something that everyone can't get. The watch is nice as it is in either dial. Since asked what dial color we liked, I would put green over Brown, and I also like the Sundust dial.

I think the green is difficult to read. I actually like the white dial for legibility. I know that's not what you asked, but I think it's the nicest one.
