Is the YM II possibly the most reviled Rolex on TRF?
There’s certainly no love lost on the YM II on this forum. It’s easily the most divisive Rolex iteration, and as such, has likely been a slow seller. But, how does this bode for the reference upon eventual discontinuation? Time and time again we see previously shunned variants going stratospheric when production ends.
Isn’t the recipe of low volumes allied to discontinuation usually the trigger for secondary market lunacy? A few cases in point (equally unloved) are the 4 digit Daytona’s, and dare I say, the smurf (languishing way under list until discontinued). What say other members? Is the reviling too acute and the YM II will quietly drift into the annals of the unremembered or will it become the epitome of unrecognized speculation? Full disclosure - here’s mine, proudly owned. ![]() ![]()

I really like your one I’m personally not a fan of the steel version. I actually like the YG version too. I think it would be more one owns in a diverse collection compared to just one watch for the majority.

That’s a tough one IMHO because of the price point of your reference to begin with. It’s already a relatively expensive reference so for it to appreciate significantly would be asking a lot.
That, combined with the fact that it’s a niche professional reference, makes me think it’ll maybe hold it’s value or appreciate very slightly over time. |

I feel that it’s fairly unpopular and that will be reflected when they discontinue it. It’s huge, has a function that very few would ever use, and the dial layout is odd.

To revile it would take too much energy. Rather, I am completely indifferent.

As a tool, it's quite amazing, just a very limited market who would use it.
Much of the look would be improved if they just removed the name at 6 on the bezel. Sent from my KB2005 using Tapatalk |

It’s Awesome and never targeted to the mainstream Rolex buyer.

Really like the watch, but it's size is most likely the main factor for general market view on the model.
Love the white dial blue bezel combo... |

Your WG YM-II is by far the best looking of the line-up. Of course the SS would be a better bargain if it came with a WG bezel, a’la the SS DJ with fluted WG bezel. How Rolex doesn’t get that is beyond me.
On the watch, no - it isn’t the most divisive. That record goes to the Leopard Daytona or the Rainbow Daytona methinks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I actually thought this was a great looking piece the first time, second time and perhaps the third time I saw it. But then I kind of lost that feel for it and felt it was too.......too.....too much of something but I wasn't sure what. Like it was trying too hard to be BIG and loud and too bold for a Rolex. Perhaps if I owned a yacht I'd feel differently?

Rolex most complicated watch. Reviled? Maybe just not popular. It’s definitely too large for me. I would love to be able yo wear one.

I love this reference due to its complication, but I don't wear mine as much as I should.

I kind of like the YM II, but I don't love it enough to buy it.
I remember being offered the steel YM II back in 2017, when I picked up my SD43. The YM II didnt impress me at first. Then, it started to grow on me when I saw it again, being worn by a work colleague. These days however, I really prefer clean three-hander watches. I even sold my chronographs due to subpar legibility. So, it's unlikely the YM II will ever make it to the collection. |

I always buy what I like and I"m waiting for my YMII this week same reference as yours. It's a pricey watch at MSRP but the grey market you can save between 15 and 20 percent for a good looking sports model that's white gold and has a platinum bezel insert. Your watch looks great on your wrist and I thinks it's great that you're enjoying a watch that you like . Thank you for sharing !

I can appreciate the mechanics, but - looks aside - the sub seconds and lack of a date on such a complicated watch kill it for me.

The color combination, unique complication and even the size with its wrist presence are amazing imho
