Better screwdriver for link removal
What's the best screwdriver for removing Rolex links. I have the bergeon one and although the width of the blade is fine the blade is thinner than the slot on the screws and easily jumps out of the slot and can mare the screw head. Is there a driver blade that's thicker and will fit the slot better with a tighter fit?

Get yourself some sandpaper or a sharpening stone and reshape the blade. If the width is correct, making it the right thickness should be pretty easy.

As a professional watchmaker we find ourselves having to reshape blades for specific purposes. Every brand, calibre, case and bracelet can have slightly different thickness of screws. No sets (even from the usual suppliers to watch companies - Bergeon, horotec, VOH etc) come from the factory perfect. So long story short - if you want to do what a watchmaker does; modify your own! |

Why bother doing this Eric when you can buy a screwdriver with the correct blade?
Some screwdrivers have blades made from chocolate. There are dozens of threads on the Forum with this information or just purchase a Rolex 2100 screwdriver. Which Rolex model are you referring to Jay?

Horotec hollow ground 1.6mm screwdriver
You can buy just the blade and fit in an existing 1.6 handle if you like Works safely and easily. Got mine from https://www.leosics.co.uk/spare-curv...rewdriver.html Probably easily available locally for you. |

I'll repost a reply I made earlier (which had a weblink in it to a supplier, which it seems has to go before a moderator before it can be allowed to appear.....I guess it may surface eventually)
The gist of the message was, that the horotec 1.6mm hollow ground blade fits a standard 1.6mm screwdriver handle, and works safely and easily. If you want you can buy just the blade and it's cheap. Have a search for a supplier local to you. |

Outside of ebay, is there a source for the Rolex Ref 2100 screwdriver? If so, anyone know what these run?

Look here in the ads. They show up now and then, often in a seadweller kit. I would expect it to cost about $100. You can also buy it from an AD, but be prepared to pay double that then.

I used a knockoff Bergen bought through amazon- same issue with a thin blade. Worked on 3 bracelets and only marred one screw at the beginning. I use lots of acetone, take it slowly, and hold the end of the screwdriver when removing a screw to prevent it jumping out.

My local AD ordered me one (REF.2100) a few years ago. They charged me $30.00

I found that this Bergeon works just fine. I also use lots of masking tape on the bracelet to avoid any scratches in case of a slip. I bought off eBay from a seller in France and received in just a few days. |

This is a flat ground blade, not the right tool for the job....it WILL dement the screwhead if any real pressure is applied. You need a hollow ground driver. FWIW, Rolex sport model link-screwheads aren't 1.6mm....they are 1.7mm. This one might be worth looking at/trying out: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2100-Tool-Sc...zhzFGvR2q5g78g |

- "This items is NOT Manufactured or Endorsed by Rolex, We're NOT a Rolex authorized dealer." It's advertised as a Rolex screwdriver and with the trademarked logo and yet says in the fine print not a true Rolex product. Maybe it will work, or not, but I would be concerned that this is not the real deal but at the real deal price. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Ultimately w/o a blade sharpener one will go through blades like crazy. Horotec makes a nice hollow ground sharpener that does a great job but sucks to use. Many options for stuck Oyster screws, stuck Jubilee screws are the most frustrating. Usually a lot of butane, screw blades, cursing, and lastly drilling out the screw if all else fails.

Stay away from that tool. We have one and the blade is a strange shape so it can't be sharpened with the standard Bergeon or Horotec sharpener. The blades are soft so you are stuck buying replacements from them.

Better screwdriver for link removal
This is my favorite set of screwdrivers. I haven't found a screw yet that I can't back out with these and with zero blade deformation.

The Horotec sharpener. That's the one! More than half the price of the Bergeon. Worth mentioning if the screw head is rounded from past fiddling it's back to the butane and bent blades.

I much prefer the Panerai screwdriver to the Rolex one.
