Thinning the herd. HELP me decide...

Help me decide...

I'm thinking I will either sell these 3 (1680 c1978, 18038 c1983, 16750 c1984- some boxes and assorted papers but none are full kits.)

Or sell this one (116509-2014 b&p)

For me this is a really tough call as I love them all. Unfortunately, they mostly just sit in the bank vault, and at the moment, that is less than ideal as I would like to pursue some other interests. My initial idea was to keep the Daytona, but I'm having second thoughts.

I also have some other non-Rolex that I tend to wear for work. Therefore, I won't be in a one watch situation if I sell the lot of 3...

Thanks for the input.

Wow, you have some very nice pieces! I don't know how much of a loss you might take, but I'd probably let the Daytona go first. Personally, I don't think I'd part with the Sub and GMT.

Personally, I'd sell the Daytona & the non-Rolex watches. Those 1st 3 are keepers

Is there a reason for the sell off other than not enough use?
Sell off everything that isn't a Rolex, maybe the Daytona too. That should give you some extra play $$

I agree with the above statements - sell all the non-Rolex watches and the Daytona.

I would sell the non-Rolex, I'm sorry to say that that Daytona is very very nice but not "special," unless it is special to you for some reason.

Amongst the three i think it should either by the President and Sub or President and GMT. The solid gold President is a fantastic compliment to an Oyster Sports watch.

I think any "thinning the herd" discussion begs the question: what do you really need (or want) from your watch collection?

You could make a case for any scenario...keep the PM watches for something worn on special occasions, or keep the steel watches for their potential value in the years to come. But it all depends on what you want.

Agree. Sell non-Rolex models and the Daytona. The last one that I would part with is that gold President. Awesome watch!

It depends on what you like. They're all beautiful pieces, but the Daytona is probably the easiest one to replace down the road if you decide you want another one.

Thanks for all the replies.

Regarding "selling all the non-rolex" they simply aren't worth the hassle of selling. They are my daily watches and not that valuable.

The reason for selling is to fund another interest and I'd rather leave my real investments where they are. Adding to the reason is that I no longer wear a Rolex daily. The reason for that is because I travel extensively for work and don't want to be a target. Over the past year several of my colleagues have been either robbed at gunpoint or beaten to a pulp over their watch. I consider myself extremely street smart and having a watch stolen wouldn't be the end of the world but my health is a different story. I'm yet to hear of someone being stalked and robbed for their Eterna! With that being said, I don't want to sell them all, but having 4 might be a bit excessive.

I'm starting to agree that dumping the Daytona is probably the right move.

I'm surprised by people saying to sell the Daytona? I think that is fantastic? Maybe because the expectation is that it will have a ceramic bezel soon.

I'd keep the Daytona over the DD, and one SS Rolex and the bane of all muggers, the Eterna, whatever that is.

Hahahahah!!!! Muggers run from the Eterna!

Honestly, I wasn't trying to turn this into an "is it safe" thread...
