A 1680 History
In the early 70's a young enlisted Marine was deployed on the USS La Moure County. He happened to notice a new Rolex 1680 in the ship's store so he took what was a lot of money to him ($230) and bought it. Not long afterwards a Navy officer tried to tell him it was supposed to have been reserved for him but luckily the Marine had a stubborn streak and told him nope. Since then that watch saw many places as the Marine completed his 30 years.
Fast forward to 2016 when the watch was handed to his eldest son (me). I grew up admiring it on his arm and though I wanted one just like it I never thought of it being mine. Just a few weeks later I was walking through a parking lot and felt it fall off. I was mortified but luckily there was no damage from the fall. An endlink connector had failed. I took it to a local jeweler who claimed to know what he was doing for a repair but he pretty much mangled it and I didn't trust it to stay together any longer. For a period I wore it on NATOs or an Everest rubber strap, then found a 93150 H bracelet so it would look more correct, but it was never quite the same not being original. Then last month I heard of a bracelet restorer and figured I'd give it a shot. Got it back yesterday and am thrilled to be able to wear it again as it was meant to be. |

Cool, I love it that your pops told the Navy officer to pretty much go pound sand…

I’m ex enlisted Navy from the 80’s and let’s just say I found myself saying a few choice words to whippersnapper officers back then…
