One watch for all occasions

I'm just curious.... If you had to pick 1 watch to wear all year, what would your choice be? RG DD for me!

+1. But if I had to dress up more than twice a year, then I would pick a black sticks dial WG/SS DJ II instead.

Of the ones in your collection, the AL&S Datograph. Speaking more broadly, I would say the SS GMT IIc - in my opinion, the best all-round watch money can buy today

I think I agree on the RG DD. Or even a YG DD. Yesterday I went to the grocery store liquor shop and compilmented the cashier on his YG DD. Only in Naples, FL cashier at a grocery store with solid gold Pres. I have to settle for wearing my 16713 or 5512 everyday. If I could do it over I would have tried to keep the Double Red Sea Dweller I got my hands on in 2000. I have not seen one since

I find its hard to believe its real...I've had similar experiences with the gold president...30k watch on a cashiers salary? seems fishy if you ask me

You can find a used DD with bracelet for $6~$8K, he also may have been the store owner.

That being said, a DD is way to bling for me... my perfect all occasion go anywhere Rolex would be a SS Datejust, bulletproof and doesn't scream "LOOK AT ME".

From the collection:

1. RG Daytona by far!
2. Harry Winston.
3. A Lange Sohne.

Nice collection.

Cheers,

Could you elaborate on your opinion regarding GMT IIC? Not disagreeing, but interested in your perspective vis-a-vis Sub, etc. Thank you.

Of course, Daniel, here's what I wrote earlier today in response to the same question

The thing I particularly like about the GMT is that it is unquestionably the purest and most user-friendly GMT watch on the market. With the Submariner, although it is undoubtedly an extremely good diver's watch, there are a lot of brands that make diver's watches that are either equal or very close in quality to it. Its very much a crowded market, whilst the GMT is almost in a league of its own.

I also think the GMT complication is a very handy feature to have as well. You have almost the same functionality of the Sub (100m water resistance is more than enough for all bar professional divers), plus a very unusual complication. You also get a movement that is only used in two models within the range, whilst the venerable cal. 3135 is used in the vast majority of Rolexes. This, for me, creates a watch that both stands out visually and technically.

This is certainly my rationale when it comes to the GMT, I know some folks absolutely adore the Submariner, and I completely understand why. Just for me, the GMT is a real stand out watch in an already excellent range offered by Rolex

None of the busy dial chronographs I would choose as a daily watch to wear in my opinion.

Based on what you have I would chose the Day Date. Bracelets wear better as a daily watch in my opinion.

The GMTIIC would be my choice as the ultimate daily watch in my opinion.

The only thing I would miss by wearing my RG DD all year is being able to read it in the dark...

It sure goes to show how versatile a Rolex can be. Some horologists may disagree but if I had to chose only 1 watch to wear... It would be a Rolex.

Anyone of these three...
I think that is why I like/have them...I can wear each of them with a dress suit or a bathing suit...Of course some look slightly better in one occasion over another but they all work.

My, way too many potential choices here! Can't I pick two!?

I think just for the sake of it I'd go with the RG Daytona!
