Tech won
I was wearing my Rolex less and less since lockdown and now I hardly wear it especially with all the robberies of Rolex watches in the UK. I might wear my IWC every now and then.
However I have succumbed to the tech world the smart watch. It monitors my sleep patterns, heart rate, my weight, O2 level, exercise routines, GPS navigation, music, notifications, stress level, pedometer weather etc. I never used to wear a watch 24/7 but now I wear it most of the day.

I have a Garmin Fenix 6 sapphire on my left wrist and a Rolex DJ on my right one. Only the Rolex ever comes off.

I find the constant interaction with my cellphone stressful enough to want less and less to do with it. Can't get rid of it though, for now.
I used to wear a smart watch occasionally while I was in the process of losing weight after I quit smoking 8 years ago. The experience with all those notifications, messages, vibrations and glows at night was nearly traumatic. I really don't need the darn thing to tell me I'm about to get the heart attack it caused in the first place...So no, in my case tech lost. In fact, I won't even wear a quartz. Nothing like the serene sweep of the second hand at 28800 bph.

Mii Fitness band on my right wrist to track steps etc, Rolex on my left wrist.
I prefer the small slim band form factor. |

To each their own Mark, but all that information, the constant bombardment, would drive me nuts.
I’ll stick to my mechanical watches. They bring me serenity now ![]() |

Not interested in around-the-clock self-optimisation and monitoring. I certainly do enough sports and have a Garmin GPS on the bicycle that I also use while paddling on the lake. |

Tech won
The modern day smart watch won the tool watch contest a long time ago...
Rolex and other mechanical watches were relegated to jewelry at the same time. Albeit functional and tough jewelry that could be utilized as a backup to modern instruments. Regardless just like Brian said, I too don’t need the information overload. I’d rather wear my antique mechanical watches any day. I’ll wear the Garmin when I’m diving but that’s about it. |

Watches are jewelry at this point, especially ones that cost 5 figures but provide the same functionality as those that cost $20 - but so what if they are? I'll never wear a smart watch because 1.) They're ugly and 2.) I don't need all that info on my wrist. I'd much rather gaze at something amazing on my wrist that feels great and is over-engineered (the depth ratings on these things!) than look at another tiny computer screen that gives me no joy whatsoever and leaves me feeling cold.

How often must an Apple watch be charged? Once a day. Worthless in many cases. G-shocks make more sense for anyone wanting to tell time and be off the grid. |

i tried very hard to like the Apple watch, but even the Apple watch 7 just did not do it for me
hope that those little rings for heartrate etc. get more appealing soon, then i can have best of both worlds without volunteering for total information overload

My phone delivers all the tech I could ever need and it's always with me. I'll stick with a classic on my wrist.

Noooooooo thank you....just ten or more things to potentially stress out over. When I look at my Rolex, I see the time and a beautiful watch. I have a doctor for all the other stuff

Wore an Apple Watch 6 GPS for about 1 year. Finally got sick of the constant notifications. Now I wear it to the gym, running and walking my dog or doing stuff outdoors. Smart watches have their purpose, but I don’t need it all the time. I love that I can listen to my AirPods and run or workout without my phone, but I still want a mechanical watch.

Sounds like the "problem" is not "tech won", its "Rolex robbery won". :(
I also own a Garmin Fenix 6 and wear it from time to time, and when I don't want to miss any phone call. It works well.

Only wear my Apple Watch when exercising - I don’t want to be constantly connected, and hence much prefer a traditional watch

Two different streams…
The Apple Watch could be replaced with the Apple Ring. Then what? Subcutaneous Chips (they shoot horses don’t they?) ![]() Keep your Rolex friends… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

As a barely functioning hypochondriac, I could never have that much health information so easily available. “What?? I only slept 5 hours. OMG, my heart rate’s up. OMG, I’m breathing rapidly.” Or, “OMG, my heart rate's too low.” I’d have way too much fun.
More power to you though. |

Fitbit for exercise and sleep. Rolex for all other occasions, that includes just sitting on my couch.

I wear my Apple Watch a lot, but I’m never getting rid of my mechanicals. Also, I expect to buy and wear more Rolex watches, not less.

I wore my Apple Watch every day from the first one through series 4. Then I got tired of the constant notifications and the oppression of having to meet my rings every day. Started wearing mechanical watches again and don’t miss it one bit. I work all the time, and the little less connection makes all the difference in the world. Plus my mechanical watches look cooler too
