2022 Day Date platinum.. OMG ! HATE THE FLUTED BEZEL !

OK... My AD WAS working on getting me a 2022 Platinum but NOW that i see the new fluted bezel.... OMG ! i REALLY HATE IT !

to my eye.... it doesn't look right with the fluted bezel... although alot of people
seem to like that kind of bezel.

i wonder if Rolex will allow you to get the smooth bezel instead.
If not.... thats IT for me. Will have to swap it out or go with with a 2021.

This is the only new reference that Rolex made that is worth retail IMO. Hit me up if your AD gets it for you I'll take it off your hands lol

Rolex charges nearly double for platinum watches, but gold is nearly 2x the price of platinum in terms of raw material.

So in terms of a value, yellow Rolex gold day date watches are the best value of worth.

That's been their pricing strategy for a long time even when gold and platinum were the same spot price.

In 1991, a YG DD was $18k retail but the PT DD was $35k.

so it makes perfect sense for them to introduce more versions of platinum watches since the profit margin is so much higher on them

I also love it.

The smooth bezel always let down the platinum DD

Yup, I have to agree. Always thought that the smooth bezel detracts from an otherwise fantastic watch.
Now, if only I could get the DD fluted with meteorite dial at retail!

The same for me
I never bought a Platinum DD because of the smooth bezel.

But the beauty of this crazy passion is our varied tastes

You have a 36mm smooth bezel, right?

I agree...it makes it look awkward and doesn't distinguish between white gold and platinum (except when you have the ice blue dial). Some folks will like it, but not for most platinum lovers I guess...I was lucky to acquire the diagonal motif ice blue just 2 weeks ago from my local AD. Waited only 5 months.

Ice blue dial is only available for Platinum. Just confirmed by reviewing the configurator on Rolex's site.

Although platinum and white gold share many of the same dials, the ice blue dials (3 different ones) are only on the platinum DD40. Not sure where monochrome is getting their information from.

I prefer the fluted bezel imo with a ice blue dial looks better than the smooth bezel

the fluted bezel on Platinum DD does make it weird looking. Much prefer the smooth bezel.

Agree. I have both white gold fluted and platinum smooth bezel DD40s…. I love them the way they are. Smooth bezel was great way to distinguish the higher cost platinum models. They literally just released duplicate watches in two different white PMs… see the new platinum meteorite DD40 for example. I have that same watch in white gold. I can tell the difference for sure, between platinum and grey gold, but many can not.

I like the fluted bezel with ice blue dial and roman numerals.

Funny thing - they have now olive green, blue and grey dials with the fluted bezel available for both white gold and platinum...

I do actually like it, it's the only new release that I do like.
What is the retail price on it?

Personally love the fluted bezel on the new Platinum models. Love the way it catches the light and on a Platnium model (with Ice Blue or Olive Green dial) it'll look especially good in the flesh I feel.

Certainly interested to see where Rolex Uk pitch the MSRP over here for that model/s.

I just put in my name of the fluted platinum daydate.
Do you understand what this means ? This is the first fluted platinum bezel ( I hate the smooth, makes it look like a lady’s watch).
That means that we will probably in a not to distant future see a platinum skydweller!

PS
Also no one of you have noticed, hint for you.
Go to Rolex website and have a look at the dial options for a yellow gold dd40.
Now that is a sleeper!! Money green baby :)

Yes, agreed on your points......now a Platinum watch from Rolex can have a fluted bezel we should see a Skydweller with that in Platinum at some point. That will certainly have some "heft"!!

And yes I also noticed the new YG Day Date 40 with the Green dial too....but it looks (on-line) a very flat green so unsure how it'll look in the natural light.

Yeah i saw it on IG now , a video and it is indeed very flat. I was hoping for that Daytona green dial.

I'm not so sure that would happen. The Skydweller range has (and has had since it came out) the Precious Metal offerings pretty well served to date with WG/YG and RG so I can't see it going Platinum as well. But IF it did it would be an immense piece....and what a weight on the wrist it would be too.

Let's see what 2023 brings us!

Man the fluted is the BEST thing they did.

I've been waiting on a platinum fluted for years and years.

Damn it. Might have to spend up big this year to buy this one.

I second this. Incredible in the harder metal here. Though I wish Rolex would've left the smooth bezel as an option in platinum for those wanting a slightly less flashy Day Date.
