Icon2 Do You Like the 40th Pieces?

In order to protect those who have honest opinions, but worried about being exposed, let's try this again:

Simple question: Do you like the Naut 40th Anniversary Pieces?

For all AD's, these poll votes CANNOT be seen, so feel free to be honest

I don't like the diamonds or the inscription. I would take a plain SS 5711 over the 40th model, and I love platinum.

Lose the diamonds, inscriptions, and size them down a bit, and they aren't awful.

The platinum 5711 could've been so so so good, but was executed so poorly.

Looks like keeping voting private is bringing out some honest numbers.

Without the large dial text they would be fine, there is nearly always a knee jerk reaction to new models coming out and that tends to soften once members actually see and buy the watches, the Platona being a prime example with a lot of initial disdain for the brown, so this is no real surprise as the dial text and diamonds were not ever really asked for here.

I agree.

I believe at one time the DBlue was referred to as the "seaweed". I thought that was funny, till I actually saw one

Yes, already the poll is at 1 in 3 don't mind it, and once we have incomings here it will move to 1 in 2 so all pretty typical stuff for a new "controversial" release.

Do You Like the 40th Pieces?

It seems Patek was looking to do something different for the 40th on a watch that everyone loves just the way it is. In my mind, it is a no win situation for them.

At 50mm they would have been sold out in a day.

I don't - I think the text on the dial cheapens the look considerably but the cork box is a nice touch

So not Patek

Totally agree the font on the face is very low rent, the beauty with Patek is that less is more and the 1976 - 2016 isn't required. I have and do work hard and haven't blown thousands on cigarettes so own a 5711 and a GMT Blue / Black, I enjoy both pieces but have to say that when I put the nauty on the Rolex is soon forgotten only because many people don't know what it is and if someone asks I just politely comment "if you don't know then don't worry about it".

I understand why Patek didn't display any nautilus at Basel this year in anticipation to launch the two 40th models but I would rather have a SS 5711 and a new Range Rover for the price of a 5711/1P 40th.

Wait and see for me. I hated them when I first saw the photos, I don't mind them now. I didn't like the 5930, 5524 or 5990 either at first and love those now so wouldn't rule out the 40th anniversary pieces looking so much better in the metal also.

For that price point, there are other options that I would explore. I'm sure however that they will have no problem selling.

I don't like them personally. I guess I'll have to break the news to my AD once he calls me to let me know mine have arrived...

About the first part, no. Of course, it's merely my opinion so more power to anyone who likes them.

Now the second part...I wish it wasn't a joke.

I mean are you joking about putting your name down for both as an allocation and then waiting until you get the call to then say no - I assume yes you are joking.

What’s with all the cynicism?
Do you know anything about Carl’s relationship with his AD(s)?
Hasn’t it crossed your mind that there will be many ADs putting down names without even asking their clients?
It’s not like Thierry phones each one personally and confirms they’ve put their own name forward themselves, is it?

Can't argue with the numbers. I guess it also says something about how people view the Classic Nautilus look. Mess with it at your peril.

It is interesting that most people who have commented in the various threads are less concerned by the diamonds and more concerned by the wording. It is curious as although none of us have seen the watch in the flesh I can't help but think the diamonds will be the eye catcher.

I'm still happy to swim against the tide.

No different than any watch that is introduced.

Let's see, but always good to get a vote on initial impression (which for Patek means you MUST order NOW--so all one can go on).

This is getting boring...
If you don't like them...great move on.
Russel, I and others do....however we are in the minority.
From Patek's point of view I am sure that the 5711p has already sold out and the other has or will.
We are talking about their brand and any publicity is good publicity.
Plus in reality most of the haters are not and never will be the target demographic for these type of releases.
Just my two cents and I am sure that I will get flamed but I find these threads stupid when we have only seen two wrist shots and 99% of us have not seen the watch in person
