Do people notice/compliment your watches?

I'm new to watch collecting, but have purchased the following over the last six weeks:

36mm Rolex Datejust blue dial
41mm Zenith Chronomaster sport with white dial/black bezel
41mm 2021 Omega Seamaster Blue Dial

I've rotated through each several times, but have never received a compliment on them. Not that I'm fishing for compliments, but I always thought even the common non-watch collector would recognize a nice watch vs something bought at Macy's.

Curious if people acknowledge your watch. And if so, what's the one that gets the most compliments?

Most people just don’t care. And if they do, they’re still not going to go out of their way to talk to you. Wear your watches for yourself, not compliments.

A watch may get commented on once for every 50 times it gets noticed.

Only my Black Bay 58 has ever gotten a compliment from a stranger.

Most people really don’t care enough about watches to pay attention to what someone else is wearing.

Funny, same here. My BB58 was commented on today at the golf course.

Wow, you are on a tear. Enjoy those new watches. Nobody ever compliments me on my watches, but that’s fine. I feel good wearing them. It’s the same with other nice things; they are fairly invisible to others.

Guess I figured that - much like when I wear a nice shirt out of the blue and get compliments for it - the same would be true of a nice watch. Let's face it, there are a lot of watches that look like Rolexes, but people are willing to pay a premium because they are a status symbol. Sure, there are collectors who wear watches just for themselves, but I think most people wear them for themselves AND others. Otherwise, a Apple Watch tells more accurate time.

To each their own. Though I think you will find most of the tenured members here wear watches because they like them, not for others.

I wouldn’t overthink it, as it should just be about simple pleasure. Whether that means wearing a watch just because you love it, or for feelings of perceived elevation and admiration, it doesn’t matter.

That said, not many people around here would buy a Rolex instead of a look-alike because of status. There are a lot of deep fans of the watches here.

Disagree.
Besides my 16710 GMT I also have a Mido Multifort. It's an excellent watch but even among watch enthusiasts no one really cares. I like it and wear it only for myself.

Nobody notices, nobody cares, which is just how I like it. Many folks out there think Rolex wearers are idiots anyway.

Agreed!
I much prefer to be left alone, than people to ask questions in the general public.
Only caveat being, if I'm with a group of WIS, at a GTG!

I personally don't tell anyone I even know, family included, of what I have for a watch. And I absolutely hate it if someone (like my brother who does know), decides to share that fact with someone else in a group setting while I'm present.

I wear my watches for me.

With good reason. Stunning watch. I’d compliment it too, if I saw it.

I personally enjoy compliments. And I get them fairly regularly with my watches. I give them regularly too.

My Patek Philippe gets noticed all of the time.
I have then gotten in to many conversations with people about their collections also.
I have found many friends that i never knew were in to watches until i wear one of mine.
My AP and my gold rolex get noticed and commented on also.
This happens at parties and dinners.
My experience is vastly different than most people who post about this subject.

10 years ago when I started collecting, once in a blue moon. Over the past few years the frequency hasn't been insane, but enough for me to consider whether I even want to open myself to conversation when I put on a watch, which ends up with most sitting in the box anymore and some plastic GI military timex has been my daily beater ever since I bought it(was deployed in Afghanistan/Iraq)

Im always looking at what watches people are wearing … comes with the territory I guess.

I’m sure others might be looking too, but commenting is rare.

Well some notice but mind their business, I really don't care who compliments my watch provided it makes me happy.

I have had the pleasure of wearing and loving many different Rolex models, and once about 8 years ago someone said something.

Just the sales guy in the Rolex store.
