How do you fund your Rolex

Hello all, i am not sure if this topic has yet been discussed.

Let's be real, an average rolex (brand new or used) starts at $5,000, and some newer and more popular models cost $10k+. I am curious how an average person buy a rolex because with mortgage, car payment, family and kids, how do you manage to save up to buy a rolex and what do you do for living?

Thanks

I keep my "watch money" separate from the family funds.

very clever, but don't you have other priorities in life that require more of your financial attention?

Those should all be taken care of before you get a Rolex. Once they are, THEN you save for the fun stuff.

And don't waste money on lots of cheaper watches hoping they will satisfy the Rolex craving. Trust me on that point!

Good question and I definitely understand where you are coming from. When you have the responsibilities you mentioned, it takes time to save for a 10k watch, even when you make a good living. I mean if you make 500k/year buying a 10k watch isn't a big deal, assuming your other costs of living are under control. For the average Joe, 10k is a lot. My advice open a separate savings account and budget 100, 200, whatever, each month into the account until you can pay for half of it. Then, assuming your debts are manageable, get a zero interest credit card with a 12-16 month term and pay the difference off over that time frame. You might get some points from the credit card company on the purchase as well. If you are patient enough then just wait until you have the full 10k saved up. I would bet most the people on here do not have 10-20k just laying around. They probably saved for the watch in a disciplined manner. On the other side, I am sure there are some wealthy guys here that can drop that dough.

I would not sacrifice other areas of your life to buy the watch, like reducing retirement savings, adding more debt, or taking away from a college fund for a kid. If you have to do something like that then you cant afford the watch to begin with.

I fund and pay off the other priorities first and the leftovers get stuffed in to a brokerage account. Will likely fund purchase via options premium from said account.

Most in here are very well off and live glued to this forum with spare time and having fun in working hours. I have been told here that they buy Rolex with play money.

Odd, because if you were that well off you would not be looking to flip watches for 500 bucks profit would you ?

They don’t spend that much time fly fishing because they’re hungry either I guess...

Nope. Watches are the primary goal for me. Everything else is just noise.

No, at least not for me. My luxury items are funded with disposable income, never money I need for necessities.

I have a modest mortgage, no kids, no car payment. I bought mine by working side jobs and selling unused camera gear/old watches. Went 6 months with no toy purchases. Bought a brand new SubC ND at retail. Am a videographer.

This

You’ll be surprised how much the little treats add up over time so as above said nothing for a few months ( my accountant said my expenses on coffee alone was a small mortgage ) and can also be healthy .

no mortgage, no car payment, kids .....my 'little' guy is 38.

as far as paying for a Rolex, I planted a money tree in my backyard 35 years ago, it bears fruit nicely.

On a serious note, I've maintained a policy that when it comes to my toys (watches, audio, shooting sports) I only buy what I can pay for, financing of ones toys is pure stupidity.

financing a Rolex without interest if paid within certain time frame to me is another way of owning this watch. It is not a stupid move but a smart one.
