Monaco AD

In Monaco at the moment and the AD here has the best collection of watches I’ve seen at any AD for a while. Including some SS!

I’m wading in this PM I fear ...

Really? Would have thought they'd have VIPs coming out of their ears. You sure they are available?

I think we will start seeing these threads become more frequent.

I think the celebs here don’t bother with Rolex! They are all in the Richard Mille store next door! There are so many ‘high end’ brands Rolex feels like the poor relation, I suspect.

Will try and get some photos later. Service wasn’t exactly pleasant however ...

I would have thought that before the hype but then SS Rolexes became more coveted than grand comp Pateks.

Those Richard Mille watches are ugly, IMHO

I've been in Monaco this past June. No SS models were available.

GMT-Master II available (not the Batman or Pepsi obviously!) and a no-date Sub. Various Explorers, perhaps unsurprisingly.

The other SS I saw are (as one poster above perhaps guessed) I am told, “reserved”. It is the Yacht Show in a week or so, they said....that figures.

It’s come to something, hasn’t it, when I felt seeing even these watches merited a post.

That is still pretty amazing. You don't see a Sub ND sitting around anywhere these days.

I bought my SD43 there last Wednesday. Two of them passed the counter that same day.
They had a black Deepsea available as well.

Maybe they already have Rolex. Most people are not collectors of one brand. They diversify when they buy watches. That’s more likely.

Thanks sweetswisssteel for helping me out with the photos. When I was in there last week it was a rather intimidating atmosphere I have to say - have never felt less welcome in an AD ever before. I did not feel able to get my phone out and start snapping away, which I regret now.

That said, if anyone happens to be in south of France or northern Italy, or fancy a designated trip to Monaco, I think your chances of finding that piece you want are (marginally) better here than most places.

I had a complete opposite feeling.
I met four people : my salesman, a young guy wearing glasses. A black lady sitting in the back of the store on a desk. Another lady from the back approaching me to say hello and finally the watchmaker himself dressed in a white dustcoat.
My salesman told me afterwards that this watchmaker achieved a "three dan grade" (one of the highest degrees) at the "Teaching the art of Swiss Watchmaking" school established by the Rolex Watch Company.

Interestingly, I was there in early September and they treated me like royalty. Not at first, but when the SA realized I had the new BLNR on jubilee (remember it was just released a few weeks/months before) he thought I was a VIP He took my girlfriend and I upstairs to the VIP floor, gave her champagne and me water, brought out the gold Cellinis for me and then their in house jewelry designer & store manager joined us.

Knowing we were Americans, the jewelry designer asked,” do you know Michael Jordan?” Little did he know MJ has a home in my neighborhood on Lake Norman (outside of Charlotte, NC — he is an owner of the Hornets).

He said he created a ring for Michael Jordan’s second wife. It was a butterfly made with all black diamonds. The ring actually fits on two fingers with a little button on the underside. When wearing the ring, if you rest your hand on a flat surface it depresses the button and the butterfly’s wings close. When you release the button the wings open.

He then brought out the identical ring and put it on my girlfriend — however, this ring was made with both white and black diamonds.

Here’s some pics of my GF and me there, the ring, and my TH Monaco (I was actually wearing it and not a Rolex that day).

Waiters and school girls for example wear SS Rolex and gold Rolexes in Monaco. I like Rolex very much, but as some people have said, AP, RM and Patek are very popular here with LOCALS.

Interesting. Any particular reason you bring this thread back to life after 2 years, to tell TRF that waiters and school girls wear SS and gold Rolex in Monaco? If they have money, why not, they too can buy. Perhaps even buy Bovet if they have the cash.

Cheers

Best open availability of SS models I’ve heard of in a while. Thanks for sharing.
