I have an itch- 116610LV or panerai 42mm submersible (682)

Hey guys and gals,

So I have the itch (again) for a new watch and am deciding between the 116610LV (hulk) and the new 42mm panerai luminor submersible (682) that came out this year. Does anyone own both a SubC (I have a SubC Date LN) and this new submersible? I’ve tried on both but curious how they compare after several months of ownership. For sake of argument , assume LV can be had at retail or slightly less (my assumption once Rolex starts shipping SS watches in 2018), which puts it in the same neighborhood of price of the Submersible.

Thanks for any insights/advice/reviews! (And yes I realize there will be bias on TRF but looking for some honest advice!)

For reference here is the submersible on my wrist (forgot to snap a pick of the LV but I’m sure everyone has seen 100s of LV picks already on TRF)

Probably prudent to go for the Pam at the moment, and the Sub is my fave model, I really am a sub guy.

You already have a SubC LN, so get the PAM for some diversity.

I have a LVc and Pam. Two completely different looks. My gut says buy the Pam a year from now when you can get a like new pre owned as the resale value will save you a lot. The Hulks resale value is top shelf so buying a LVc new and the Pam pre owned makes sense to me.

I agree with Mystro. I am glad to see Panerai has a submersible for “normal” wrists.

I wouldn’t touch a 42mm Panerai period. I am sure other owners will chime in with the same sentiment.

Just wait for the LVc.

Generally speaking most 42 and 40mm PAM references are preferred by women and are not that favourable on the market.

I have the subC and my LVc is on the way. To completely different watches and looks.

Get the LVc (if you can get it for MSRP) since you already have a black dial

Words of wisdom, yet again

If you want a PAM Submersible, it has to be 47mm. Take a look at the 389, which has just been replaced by the 1389. It's titanium so not at all heavy and has a ceramic bezel, which makes it look pretty classy. Also, you should be able to pick one up at a tidy discount now that it's discontinued.

If 47mm isn't your bag for whatever reason, I think you're better off hanging fire until the 682 starts hitting the pre-owned market for significantly less money than MSRP.

Good luck

Disagree. THE submersibles to own are the 44mm 024 SS or 025 Titanium

42mm is not Panerai

47mm is par for course with Panerai. 44mm divers LS 024/25 are iconic

024 and 025 are long discontinued so you're assuming OP wants to buy pre-owned.

If you want to go further down that road, the Bronzo is THE submersible to own.

025 titanium discontinued
024 still in production

Agreed. Bronzo is the sub to own. Than 2 listed above!

The PAM is very nice but the Hulk, well they're no words to describe that beauty!!! Go with your gut feeling. You're the one wearing it.

IF you are going to be the last owner of it - you can comfortably get whatever your heart desires..but if you might someday wish to sell either for whatever reason - be prepared for your wallet to take a beating on the PAM. I think Richemont is poorly marketing this brand further deflating the bursting Paneristi bubble they already have on their hands. Rolex has long crafted a masterful approach to branding and established themselves as the premier blue chip in the watch trade. Always nice to have that ace in your pocket and on your wrist.

Agree w 40mm, but I think 42mm on a small male wrist looks the same as 44mm on large wrist ... unfortunately I just can’t pull off a 44mm or 47mm panerai ! The 682 otherwise looks identical to its larger brother.

That was my thought , don’t have a submersible in my collection.

That LVc dial is special!

Same here! 44-47mm just too big on my wrist- looks cartoonish!

Great advice! While I am not a flipper, I also don’t want to take a gigantic loss if I ever were in a tough spot where I needed to sell one or more watches. So def would need to get a good discount on the pam.

So is there a consensus on what %discount makes a reasonable purchase for a new PAM? 20%?

I think 20% new from AD would be a good target which might be attainable if one was a cash buyer, if you were to flip it on the open market yourself or elect to buy one from an independent source as LNIB then 30% off could be an outcome IMHO.
