New Breitling Launch This Weekend

I received an invitation to a new model launch event at my local boutique this weekend. My guy there is tight-lipped, but he hinted that it was a new diver model. Given Breitling’s recent M.O. of updating models from their back catalog, what do you think it’ll be?

Whatever it is, I’m excited to go to the event and check it out. I’ll take photos, of course.

I hope that they will make something in 40 mm for diving.

I like it. Not a cookie cutter design. Once the details are released I will probably be a buyer. I hope it is at least a true 42mm or larger.

It's a great looking watch, I like it! Agree that it's very unique in a good way. Like anything else it won't be for everyone but I can certainly appreciate it.

I like it, I think it looks good with a unique chapter ring and dial design. Hope there is a variety of sizes to suit everybody.

I really like the design. But there’s absolutely no excuse for a new watch that’s shipping with a 38hr power reserve.

Love the retro design, and glad to see they added a ceramic bezel to their Superocean line. Can’t wait to the the white dial version in person.

In looking at the Breitling site it looks like the 36mm is the only version listed as having a white dial. They also show the 42mm version with a silver dial option that appears to match the chapter ring. The chapter ring on the 36mm white dial watch appears to be the same silver shown on the 42mm watch based on the pictures. Some of Breitling's silver dial variations do appear to have a soft white patina and not pure silver as on the new Chronomat model.

This is one that you will have to see in person before deciding.

I like it! It’s so funky, not at all boring like everything else being produced lately. I dislike that minute hand so much that I actually like it… if that makes any sense.

And there’s no date!

I think these have a selita movement in them, which is odd. I thought they could have got one from Tudor/ kenissi.

Other than the minute hand (which I don’t particularly like) I quite like these. The limited edition 42 in orange looks good

No, it’s a Breitling caliber 17 which is a modified ETA 2824-2.

My bad - still, I’d have preferred an in house movement

Not me, I prefer this movement. I can service it myself and save money in the long run. Looking forward to checking these out this weekend.

I think they made the switch to Sellita since the specs now show 26 Jewels for all of the new SuperOceans. The 2824-2 only has 25J—not that the single jewel difference means one is better than the other.

Breitling has not been able to source a top grade ETA in years. They have been replaced by Sellita sw200-1. Sad to say.

I love the design as it really pays respect to the original SuperOcean 2005 'Slow Motion', and the range of sizes is great. Some nice colourways too.

But for me it's just way too expensive for a B17 (i.e. ETA2824/Sellita SW200) piece. So you could spend a minimum of £3700 for this ETA/Sellita no-date 3-hander... or £3080 for a Tudor BB Pro with an in-house GMT movement. Hmmmmm....dictionary definition of "no brainer" IMO.

And as an aside I still don't know why Breitling can't make an in-house 3 hand movement themselves. It's 13 years since they created the excellent B01 which, being a chronograph, is considerably more complicated than a time-only movement. Even relatively tiny outfits like Nomos and Yema have managed it.

So, I love the design but a bit of a missed opportunity, especially for the price.

It is a shame they haven’t developed an in house movement for 3-handers, but on the other hand…they’d raise the list price another $2K if they did.
