24 years old. Too young to have a steel Sub?

Hi guys! This is my first thread in the forum.

I've always loved Rolex as a brand and how powerful it is. How people look at it and what it means to many people.

I've been looking forward getting my first Rolex for already two years. I know it might buy status somehow... even though most people maybe won't recognize them, but for those who knows the brand...

I really love the Submariner date steel... I like it because it is still a fine movement watch... and it is simple in the sense of not having gold/white gold or diamonds, like I've seen in some people... plus I tried it on my wrist in a store and I just felt like wow.

So question is... 24 years old, too young to get an Steel Submariner? One of my best friends said I should wait until I am at least 30.

What do you guys think?

Cheers!

Thanks.

I was wearing a TT Submariner when I was 21. From my point of view, 24 is plenty old enough to wear any watch in the Rolex lineup.

First part of your question says am I to Young and Second part says am I to Old. Either one works for me Good Luck. Get a Sub.

Thats Great : At 19 I did not know what a Rolex Was. Good for you. (when you get older 6 years is alot, in fact an awful lot).

I'm 17 an I'm getting one when I turn 18. Many members of the forum have had them below your age, so I see no problem in you getting one good look in your search for one

Been wearing one of my Dads since I was 15ish every now and then. Wearing one full time since I was a Senior in HS. Mostly his 90's GMT. Got my DSSD when I was 23. Why wait if you can afford it. I would say more than 50% of my college friends wore some kind of nice watch. I mean 16 year olds get $30-40k cars everyday. Nothing wrong with a 24 year old man in a Rolex especially if you buy it yourself.

I guess the question I would have is if one can afford it or whether it's really one's parents who are affording it. Obvious point being whether you earned it with your own money versus someone else's money. If you have to use someone else's money to purchase, I wouldn't spend it on something so frivolous as a luxury watch.

FWIW, I always wanted a Rolex and could have afforded one a year out of college with my first investment banking bonus. However, instead I wrote a nice check to my parents as a gift for what they had done for me.

Something so frivolous as an appreciating asset? I've seen money spent a lot more frivolously on depreciating ones. Good for you for writing a check to your parents. As a parent myself I would not expect my child to do anything like that. My reward is much greater than what you could give me monetarily.

I wouldn't necessarily call a luxury watch necessarily an appreciating asset. I certainly don't expect my watch to increase in economic value. It's a luxury item I just wanted. No hiding it. I wanted it and got it. But, I'm not going to fool myself into thinking that it is some kind of prudent investment vehicle.

In terms of my parents, you're right that it was nothing they ever expected nor wanted to accept, and it was only a tiny fraction of the money they'd spent on me over the decades. However, it was more of a gesture/promise to them that I would do whatever I could for them when I finally got out on my own supporting myself.

Edit: I only offer up the above anecdote not as a hater but just to give pause for thought. FWIW, I don't think that there's any right age for a Rolex, just a right moment or period of one's life. Only one can determine for themself what that appropriate moment in life is.

I say it depends on the person. When I was in high school in 1986 my friends dad bought him a Rolex for graduation. He just bought his son a Rolex Milgauss for his 16th birthday.

So I say it just depends on how responsible the person is. And, if you have more money that you have sense, go for it I say!

I don't think there is a right age...it's all about the maturity of the individual.

age is not a restriction, but money is. if you can afford it, go for it! high school girls nowadays carry expensive designer bags. i don't see why a 24 years old grown man couldn't wear a ss rolex sub.

Perfect age mate! I bought my explorer last year at 23 and just bought my GMT ceramic as I've turned 24.

If there's one thing in life I've learned it's buy these things while you can before you start a family etc!

Treat yourself

Thats a fine age providing you can afford it. I started a bit before that age, but BE AWARE, this will begin a slippery slope of watch collecting that few can curb!!! Best of luck! Lol!
