1680 Red Sub looks good on stage w/red keyboards

Hey folks, I'm a "weekend warrior" musician, playing with a rock band just about every weekend. This past weekend, I broke out the NATO strap and grabbed a quick photo from behind the keyboards. It is very comfortable and matches my keyboard rig quite well!

Thanks! It is indeed a double red keyboard, made in Sweden. This band plays a variety of songs, everything from classic rock like Beatles and Rolling Stones to '80s music such as The Cure, U2 up to modern music: Muse, The Killers, Barenaked Ladies, Smashmouth. It is a fun group.

Yes, this is the fabled "unobtainium" red service dial with luminova.

So, er, you have Red w/ a service dial, and spent money on a FF insert?

Yes, does that surprise you?

I think it looks great and there have been some other threads about my watch. This original 1680 watch is from the Red period and had a dial (originally red) that was no longer usable for numerous reasons. So I have a 1680 with a red service dial which would be appropriate if sent to an RSC that has them. I've been told that is uncommon, possibly only in very select Europe RSCs. But not something impossible to see. The FF insert looks awesome compared to the service insert (though that one was pretty cool).

I know there are some folks that shun the idea, but there are plenty of people wearing 1680s and other vintage Rolex with service dials. Would I rather have an original one? Sure. But that does not keep me from liking this one.

Yes. I suppose if I had a service dial and service insert, replacing the dial would be priority number one. But then you are entering Frankenwatch territory. Anyway, it looks nice and I can see why you like it.

That red 1680 looks stunning, and I personally would much rather have your set-up than an "all original".

I am sure it took a lot of work sourcing all the parts, but I beleive you have the ultimate example of the beauty of a vintage red sub with all the functionality of a moden rolex....

How about a white 1680 with grey keyboard? They are almost of the same vintage too...

It's a kick ass watch, don't apologize for it. Service dials are part of life for a Rolex, it's the normal order of things.

Enjoy!!
