Icon17 Time to discuss Richard Mille

Time for a music and watches discussion. Again

This time it's Richard Mille's turn and his watches are mentioned in an album I've listened to but just now made the connection. It's from the quite new "Watch the Throne" album in which Jay-Z sings with Kanye West.

I have previously mentioned that both Rolex and Hublot are mentioned in other tracks (Otis) on the same album along with Audemars Piguet (Ni**as in Paris)

In "Gotta Have It", Jay-Z sings:

(Ferris) Bueller had Müller but I switched it for a Mille 'cause I'm richer, and prior to this shit was moving free base

You can listen to the song here:

Richard Mille watches have to be seen live in order to fully understand how incredible the watches are. There's a thought behind each and every little piece that make them up and there's quality throughout. If you have the opportunity to try one on, just do it!

Here's my favorite Richard Mille photograph:

^^^ Someone is wearing the ultra rare and super expensive Richard Mille RM027 "Rafael Nadal" while cruising out in an equally amazing and only slightly more expensive Ferrari Enzo in matching black

I was very fortunate to try on two RM011's not too long ago. One of my favorite chronographs and a watch I hope to own sometime in the future

Please share your own Richard Mille(s) or post other RM photographs

Speaking of the RM027 and how rare it is; here's a pretty impressive shot of 5 of them together on owners' wrists. Bear in mind that the watch is $550,000 if I remember correctly

Now I understand . There are 6 of them, not 5 as I state in my post.

Makes it 20% more impressive

I'll continue on with the RM027. Did I say it's a tourbillion weighing in at approximately 21 grams? Yes, 21 grams, pretty much as heavy as the average pencil.

Here's a daredevil dropping his (waterproof) $550,000 tourbillion watch into water:

And yes! It CAN walk on water

What model are you looking at?

Don't forget to post pictures of your Zeitwerk when it arrives. It's one of my favorite Langes

Thanks Thomas! I need something to do when I'm not reading

I'm going to use this thread as a tool for learning more about Richard Mille watches and at the same time teach others. Would be great if you could add info as we go

About your desktop picture (I could've guessed ), are they really RM035's? Edited my post cause I thought they were RM027's

Although I can def appreciate the technology, styling and marketing behind the RM watches, they are just not for me.
If I had to pick one (money on object ), I'd go with the RM027 Nadal Edition, simply because I like tennis and Rafa and the fact that it floats, is like the icing on the cake :lol;

Just a word of caution guys, the depreciation on RM watches (excluding the $250k+ editions) is BRUTAL. I'm leaning towards a simple WG RM10 or maybe the RM35 but I'll be getting one used. I've been told emphatically that one should try it on before buying. While this is true of any brand, apparently it is paramount with RM as even a simple strap change will completely change the look/feel.

It's going to be an agonizing wait on the Lange Zeitwerk as the AD is still telling me next year. Oh well, my recent acquisitions (Dato, 14060M, 116718, IWC 5001-07) are keeping me distracted. I've got a couple of minor pieces I'm looking for as well. The hunt is on!

This is quite true; like your Langes you have to get them at a (big) discount to avoid losing your shirt if you ever look to sell. One would have to be very patient, but for example the RM002s trade in the secondary market for what a RM011 retails for (!)

Trying one on sealed the deal for me -- there is no watch I've experienced that wears so effortlessly, despite its size.

Anyway, here's my contribution to the thread (my RM10):

Rm001

Alright, let's start from the beginning. Richard Mille founded the brand with his own name in 2001, after having left the French jewelry company Mauboussin. He wanted to take watch making to a whole new level using advanced technology, agressive design and unusual materials. His interest in cars and racing (especially Formula 1) influenced the first watch he released, the RM001 in 2001, as you can clearly see from the pictures below

An early hand sketch:

Here are parts from a Formula 1 car and it is easy to see how the design influenced the RM001 :

The first Richard Mille, the RM001 :

The RM001 is a tourbillon watch with power reserve  at 10 o'clock and a torquemeter at 2 o'clock. It was available in at both white gold and yellow gold. When it was released in 2001 I dare to say it was a futuristic watch and it still is today. I haven't seen this case shape on any other watch and I really like it

Keeping the writing simple and short. You could probably write a whole book about every Richard Mille
