New A. Lange & Sohne?!

What does one do when faced with improved perfection??

Lange just upgraded their Datograph with bigger case, more PR, AB/AUF indicator, better movement, bigger date, revised dial. Normally there's something slightly amiss when you enlarge a model but IMHO Lange did an amazing job on this revamp.

New

Old

No pricing info yet but betting it's over the old $80k .

Personally I love the Roman numerals on the old ones more. But the new one with bigger diameter, PR indicator and a higher PR is AWESOME!

Wow, for an updated dial/case, they did a FANTASTIC job. Love the little ab/auf indicator, and strangely, the dial is cleaner than the old model - probably thanks to the removal of the roman numerals. Not knocking the old one at all, but THAT is how you update a watch (unlike the grotesque things Rolex has done w/ their maxi cases )

when I saw this announcement, first person I thought of was you Mike!
I actually really really like the update...
the batons make the dial less cluttered and more formal...
nicely done Lange!

When you getting yours Mike?

Tough call. I'm still waiting for my Zeitwerk and I just got the old Dato. Maybe I'll get the Zeitwerk and wait for the new Doublespit that's bound to be released next.

It looks very nice and I like the power reserve indicator but is the date really bigger? I'm afraid I don't see such a big difference.

Great improved watch nonetheless!

per the article on hodinkee (click here), the date's been increased by 4% () to keep the proportions....

Absolutely agree with you Ken. I much prefer the old model, both size wise and with the Roman numerals. It was quite a heavy watch already and to have a larger size will IMO make it a bit top heavy and uncomfortable.

Plus, for my tastes, it looks a bit too plain now without the Roman numerals......and I can't say I have any real need for a power reserve.

True Phil but I can't get the new model out of my head. Of course that's true of about half a dozen other watches as well.

I honestly like the new one better..its an update and not a remodel..
the PR is a good complication (despite what the other purists say)...

and the size is more modern for a complicated piece...

time to move some things around Mike!

Don't you love SIHH? after you paid for other's Xmas present..you have to start planning your own post Xmas gift...

I've already started saving. There's got to be one or two pieces from SIHH/BASEL that I'm bound to kill for.

Wow Mike, I think I just found my next target . I've always loved the Dato, but it's too small for my taste. The Dato perpetual is the right size, but the dial is pretty difficult to read. A larger Dato, especially in platinum, fits the bill perfectly.
What is the case size?

41mm x 13mm. Perfect size for this platinum beast. With my luck you'll get this before I can even get my Zeitwerk. Would you keep your ZW Luminous?
