Anyone else here that also doesn't understand
Love Rolex but I am having a hard time understanding the common love for Panerai among Rolex owners here. Am I missing something here. To me there is no comparison between the two. Giving a choice I will take the Rolex every time.

I didn't care for Panerai at first...but they grew on me.
Owning one brand does not preclude owning both. I personally like variety. |

Oh...! It is just another human trait! Don't we look at handsome men and prettey women and drool?
If not all, some of us here love many leading brands though Rolex continues to be our first love. Are we then polygamous |

Panerai lovers out there. Don't hate me, but I have to agree. I have never seen the appeal. Rolex all day and night for me. |

Rolex vs. Pam I'd pick Rolex....unless the Pam is a 275,360,289,372,127, or a 253

I don't understand why it's an issue. Why does it matter if people like them?
I think Rolex has maintained a look to their watches for decades and that's why their brand is so strong. That argument could be made for Panerai as well. Most of Rolexs models are very iconic and easy to spot. Panerai is the same, maybe even more with that crown system they use. Of course people tend to fall into the love or hate mentality when it comes to Panerai but I don't think it's healthy to be dismissive without a real reason. I think as long as they make decent, well made watches, the brand should at least be respected. They may not be quite at Rolexs level because of the ETA movements they use, but they have enough in house movements as well. I like many of their models, but I wish Rolex would offer larger sized dials for those of us who prefer them. I'm not a huge guy by any means, 5'11", 190 with 7.5 wrists and the 40mm sized watches look a bit small on me. Not too small and maybe it's blasphemous to say this but I wish more models went up to 42mm. At least as an option. |

Originally ithoughtthey were too big and bulky but they are growing on me also. Not too many options for white dials which I find interesting

I think they look all right. I wouldn't buy one for myself though, mainly due to their size.

I like Rolex, Audemars Piquest, Jaeger Le Coultre, Grand Seiko, Vacheron Constantin, Girard Perregaux, and Panerai. My point is there are many great watch manufactures out there.
One of my favorite watches I have owned was a PAM 177. The 1950 style is great, love the case design. Now as for the Radomir's I just don't get it.... not for me. When Panerai reemerged in 1997 I thought it was a fad. I went to a watch show last weekend in Minneapolis, one of the manufacture representative for Parmigiani just sold one of his A series and was able to pay for a year of his daughter's school. Nice to own a watch and make $60K for it. That got away from me along with Microsoft and Starbucks.

Usually see people looking to trade a Rolex for a Pan. Can you believe that?

Absolutely & it happens for good reason. Rolex makes a solid product but inspiring & unique they are not. I enjoyed my Subs, GMT & Daytona for a few years but I eventually became extremely bored with the brand & the lack of individuality. The best way I can summarize the difference between Rolex & Panerai from my perspective - a Panerai has soul for lack of a better word while a Rolex is just a nice watch, nothing special that says anything about the owner other than they can afford or have the credit available to spend thousands on a watch owned by millions of others. Vintage Rolex is a different story... too small for my taste these days but I can appreciate their beauty & the thought & passion that goes into the hunt for the right piece by those that love them. |

I am really surprised to see people reply stating that they don't like Panerai.......maybe they should stay off the Panerai sub forum!!!! Any watch collection that is one brand only is flat out boring.

I wouldn't go as far as other members here stating Panerai's watches are "ugly." Instead, I just find their watches on the "boring" side. (Then again, I'm the guy who has a 116613LN with a serti dial...so perhaps I'm a little to biased.)
Panerai's dial size isn't a problem, it goes well with their style. I do like the part where you can easily interchange the straps to color coordinate with your outfit like a tie. Sometimes I feel that their limited batches increases people's mentality of exclusivity and collectable. If they were readily and easily available, I wonder if they would have so much hype to them? |

You either get it or you don't. Nothing wrong either way.
BTW, the original war issued Panerai had Rolex movements, so there is your connection.
