It's back!

Greetings TRF,

It is with a lot of pride and joy that I tell you that I got my vintage Audemars Piguet back from my watchmaker tonight. When I bought it I was very happy until I realized that it had a small problem...

...Indeed, with its dial on top the balance wheel would slow down and eventually stop, thus making the watch impossible to wear for a full day. Normally I would have worked on it myself, I did service my Jaeger-Lecoultre and quite a few other watches of mine, however, after thinking about it I thought that it would be better to ask an experience watchmaker with a good reputation to service such a thin movement. Don't get me wrong, I would have loved to do it myself and I do need to build up confidence but with such a caliber I figured it would be better to be safe than sorry...

Now my pictures aren't very good as they're dark but believe me, the movement is much cleaner than it was when I got it (I was going to have it cleaned anyway but this small balance wheel problem made me do it sooner). The man I gave it to is a one of a kind, a real artist who did a great job on my watch as well as my two chronographs a while ago.

I had to wait about a month and a half to get it back, it's not a big deal (especially when you think that AP would have made me wait much longer and would have charged me much more for it) but sending a watch for a periodic service is much different from sending one you just bought because you cannot enjoy it. I really post-poned my honeymoon with that one...

Those are cellphone pictures I took when I got back from the watchmaker's.

Another loupe picture...I quite like those...

And my trinity...

Now if you'll excuse me, I have a watch to fully enjoy...at last...

Thank you for reading, feel free to comment.

I am sure it feels special to have it back and see it like this, since you personally have complete and full appreciation of complexity and craftsmanship needed to restore it to this amazing condition. Congratulations, and enjoy!

Thank you so much guys. While the watchmaker was working on it (he kept it for a little while and I had to go to his place for other things so every now and then he'd give me an update on how things were going with it) he would tell me what he was doing or trying to do with it and I couldn't help but smile while listening to him. It was an overall great experience.
