Sticking date on my 5127
Sadly my 5127R has developed the sticking date issue. The watch just turned 2 years (warranty expired 2 months ago since I purchased it from an AD). However, I have worn the watch only occasionally. Very frustrating. Anyone else with this experience?

Sticking date is a pretty common problem. Send it in and you will probably get it fixed for free, esp if you write a polite but disappointed letter mentioning you are on the forums and will document how they treat you.

Thanks for your encouraging response.
I would like to ask those who did have this issue, whether it would happen again after the watch was fixed? Is that a problem with 324 movement that remains or it is just a quality control issue? I will be sending mine of to Patek USA tomorrow and will let you know how long it will take to fix the issue and how they will handle it. And of course I do agree after 15 years of watch collecting that Patek is the top brand that gives me most pleasure from wearing and collecting it. It is truly special and that is also one of the main reasons why I am upset by this 5127 issue. However, I hope it is a small glitch which can happen to all mechanical watches and once it is fixed, I will forget about this. |

It seems to be a recurring issue on some new 324 movements. I've never heard of it being a recurring issue after it's been addressed by Patek Service. So it sounds like a QA issue.

My 5167 suddenly developed the sticking date problem after about 16 months from new. It went to NYC for service, was gone about 2-3 months, fixed under warranty and has been fine ever since.

My 5711 showed this problem after about two months after buying it new. I'm taking it to the AD this weekend so that they can send it back in for repair. What bothers me is that my AD said he "hadn't heard this problem with new watches and only an occasional used". I'm a bit nervous since this was the AD telling me this. This problem is known for both new and used.

Sticking date on my 5127
I accept that mechanical things fail. That's why they come with a warranty. But on the other hand I think it is not right that this is a relatively common failure. I accept that this likely happens with less than 5% of the 324s that go out but in my mind this is known well enough that Patek should focus on it and get it right. If the watch was a car, they would likely have been recalled!

I agree, it is crazy that so many of us here had that same issue with that same movement. In fact, we are a very small percentage on this forum who owns Pateks and even within this small percentage, many of us have had the issue. That does suggest that it is a very common mechanical issue with 324 movement. I hope, once Patek fixes it in the after service the issue will be gone forever.

Patek now have a fix for the sticking date problem with the 324. They identified and modified the faulty part. My watch was the guinie pig and was sent back to Geneve. It's been fine since I got it back. Hope this helps op.

I had the same issue on my 5167. What I did was give the crown a couple of turns so that the date changes 7 times. It's been fine after that. It was probably sticking. If it doesn't work send it in. But maybe my trick can help. Let us know.

Mine has done it a couple of times now and it seems fine after I've ran through the date wheel to the following month. Is it best to send it back before I'm out of warranty? |

Yes, send it in for repair while under warranty. Make sure the timekeeping is satisfactory as well, since you will want to mention it if it's not. The only heartbreaker is the time away. It takes months. Better have a good backup watch to keep you company! |

I am glad to hear Preacher that they have identified the issue. Do you recall what exactly it was?

Well, mine didn't get fixed by turning the calendar full cycle.

Hopefully mine got fixed with my little trick. But as others have mentioned... send it in ASAP. Better if its still under warranty but it will take a couple of months to see it again. That's why I had to fix it myself.
Sent it in. |

Happened to my 5980. I was told not to change the date between 10pm and 2am. It was a few minutes past 2am so thought I might be okay, but the date stuck. Brought it back to my AD, they sent it back to Switzerland, and I got it back around 10 weeks later fixed under warranty.

I've had the 5711, 5167 and 5980 and have never experienced this problem. I always change the date with the time set to 4:30 AM (both hands pointing down) and all were bought new from an AD within the past 18 months. The date always changes right at midnight.

This problem with the 324 is not user inflicted as some have said in the past. There is a faulty part which needs to be replaced. Or at least that was the case with my watch.

That is correct, it was not user inflicted! The date got stuck on its own and not because of the manual date or time change. I always change date at 12 pm if it needs to be set, according to Patek recommendations. Given that I have a number of watches, never had any issues. But this one, date just got stuck on its own at midnight, when it was supposed to click in the correct position.

Bad news to report here. While advancing the date on my 5980 1R from June to July with the PP pusher at 8am, my date wheel is partially turned and will not advance. Off for warranty service unfortunately.

Happened to my 5711 and it was fixed under warranty. It has been fine so far. I feel your pain and I hope you get it back soon.

I'm assuming you tried advancing it manually via the crown as well?

My 5167 had the sticking date. I sent it in and it has been working since then.
