New 2016 Explorer

So... the hands on the older 39mm Explorer were too short after all!

Just imagine if Rolex comes out with a PVD version of this? Revolutionary!

The long hand is better. However, at 3 and 9 am or pm the min hand at 12 and hour hand at 3am/pm or 9 am/pm look out of prioportion on the new one. Maybe the OP did OK afterall. The white gold markers give a dress/sports look and he must of liked it or he would not of purchased it.

My point is that the mark 1 and 2 have there own quality. They are both good.

That blue lume is sexy... and it's about time they applied it to the 3,6,9 markers.

I now regret my purchase of the last of the 114270 model explorers... I wasn't planning on flipping this watch, but that lume is reason enough to upgrade.

Do AD's do trade ins, or are you best selling privately?

Yes they will do a trade-in but that fetches less capital recovery for you overall due to two reasons. First, they must leave room in the trade value to resell your watch at a profit (about the same as pawn broker buy price). Second, your watch will lose value since your order won't be filled for another year methinks.
That said, I'd sell onward to a private buyer now. Avoid local dealers who will low-ball you and focus on buyers who want to wear a LNIB Rolex.
And then use those funds to place the order - your AD will be glad to sell you a second Rolex. Remember, they don't need to know what you're doing to fund the purchase.

Yep... Now I can stop convincing myself that the short hand is long enough. Just have to find some unwitting newbie to unload the old one on and I'll be all over this :D

Here's what that watch (ref 114270) looks like in the dark:

Previously the only Explorer with the lume on 3, 6, 9 is the 1016. Love the lume on the new one though.

If the reference number hasn't changed, and the new hands are now the 'correct' ones, a short-handed Exp should come back from a service with the larger hands fitted.

The min hand may be short on the mark 1 but it is in proportion. On the mark two the min hand is longer but not as proportional. look at pic of the submariner hands, then look at the Explorer 1 mk 2 hands. Especialy at 3 pm or 9pm. the min hand is way to long and hour hand to short.

What they should of done is change the dimensions of the case marginaly. These are all small differences that most people do not notice, until it is pointed out to them.

They are all good. The mk1 has the lovely dressy and sporty 3,6,9 and the mark 2 has the lovely lume 3,6,9 with a classic sports look.
